PA militants strongly oppose Egypt's Gaza role
The Palestinian Authority officially supports the disengagement plan and Egypt's involvement in helping to implement it, but Fatah, Hamas, the Popular and Democratic Fronts, and other Palestinian political groupings Monday issued a joint statement strongly opposed to the "security role" proposed for Egypt and Jordan in the territories.

The statement said: "We are amazed by, and deplore, the talk of a 'security role' for some Arab parties in Gaza and the West Bank, because our people expect the Arab nation to act according to the logic of supporting the Palestinians and not the logic of 'security,' which cannot be used with regard to the Palestinian people defending its land and its holy places. The references turn things on their heads, making the problem the Palestinian people and not the occupation."

The statement followed an emergency meeting of the parties' representatives in Gaza. It also comes before a return trip to Israel and the PA this week by Egypt's head of intelligence, Omar Suleiman, who is coordinating the Egyptian effort to guarantee an orderly and stable Gaza after the Israeli withdrawal.

The statement attacks Egypt and Jordan and calls the role envisioned for the two "as an attempt to take over the Palestinian problem." It was the most severe criticism so far by the organizations of Egypt's role in preparing for the disengagement and the intentions they ascribe to Jordan and its role in the West Bank.

1. This should be "fun" to watch.....
Egypt has to stop being a "cheerleader" and get in the game.

They should seek advice how Jordan handled the palestinians...
you know....that little thing called BLACK SEPTEMBER.

2. This Complaint By The Militants, Ma'am, Has Encouraging Features
A feeling by these fellows that the "Arab Nation" is abandoning their struggle is an essential ingredient to producing a condition of peace in this matter. Throughout the history of this conflict, the "hard men" have sustained their morale and commitment by the idea that the whole of Araby and Islam, ultimately, is behind their efforts, and might conceiveably move to their assistance in decisive manner. This phantasm steels them against drawing reasonable conclusions from repeated failures, and the heavy odds against success in their endeavors.

3. I think they oppose
everyone but themselves, and insist on having a free hand to carry out their program, which is worse than bigotry.

to carry out government functions. I will kick anyones butt that interferes with this. I believe at one time this attitude fell under a slogan called "taxation without representation, also "don't tred on me!" and "Live Free or Die!".

Serously, are their any Arab governments you would allow to run your country?

6. These People, Ma'am, Are Not The Government
They are merely private armed bodies. The nearest thing to government involved in the question is the Palestine Authority, which officially, at least, has solicited the assistance of Egypt in controlling the actions of these armed bodies. It is no wonder they protest this: the Egyptian security services know very well how to break such bodies, and will be able to do so without anything like the fuss and bother raised by Israeli actions....
