Of fractions of factions...

Strange, but all these splinter groups and groups within groups keep on reminding me of Monty Python's Life of Brian.

The Egyptian intelligence services delegation
headed by Mustafa Elbuheiri, which met Wednesday
with Hamas and Jihad leaders about tightening the
controls on the hudna, can be satisfied. Sheikh
Ahmed Yassin and Hamas leaders made clear to the
delegation that they are committed to the hudna,
despite what they referred to as Israeli
violations.


The Islamic Jihad leaders, who
on Tuesday "adopted" the Kfar
Yavetz terror attack, announced
later that an unknown, rogue
faction, which is not part of
the organization's mainstream,
was responsible for the
bombing.

But the very commitment of the

two organizations, and the enlistment of the
Popular Front into the hudna, has raised
concern inside the organizations about splits
and the creation of new organizations that
oppose the cease-fire and could get out from
under the control of the leaderships.

That is the real significance of Yassin's
statement about his organization's commitment
to the hudna. It was a statement directed not
only to the Palestinian Authority, Israel and
the United States, but also to the members of
his organization and other rejectionist groups.
And the message was that independent attacks
are not acceptable to the leadership - at least
not at this stage.
