IDF kills girl, 13, on her way to school
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/485488.html

<snip>

"Israeli soldiers shot dead a 13-year-old Palestinian girl in the southern Gaza Strip yesterday.
Five other Palestinians were killed in the Strip in three separate incidents, bringing the Palestinian death toll to at least 77 since the start of Operation Days of Penitence a week ago.

Military sources admitted yesterday that the killing of Iman Alhamas was a mistake. They said the case was being investigated and confirmed the possibility that she had been shot from several posts.

The girl was shot dead on her way to school, accompanied by two classmates. She was wearing her school uniform and carrying her book bag, which military sources said was suspected of containing explosives. Medical sources in Gaza said the girl was hit by 20 bullets.

After Israel Defense Forces troops fired a warning shot, the girl dropped her bag and tried to run away. The troops then shot her dead. She was about 400 meters from the school. The troops did not find any explosives or weapons in her schoolbag."

2. So - let's recap here .... the IDF troops thought she had explosives
in her book bag. They fire, she drops the bag, which doesn't
explode, so they then shoot her as she runs away - with the
explosives - where?

Sounds to me like a bloody lie - more like some bored soldiers
just having a bit of fun.

Bastards.

3. IDF probing if officer fired at already-wounded Gaza girl
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/486981.html

<snip>

"Military Advocate Brigadier General Avihai Mandelblit has ordered military police to open an investigation Monday into charges that a company commander "confirmed the kill" of a 13-year-old girl from Rafah, who was hit by IDF fire last week.

The term is military slang referring to the firing at close range of combatants after they have already been shot to the ground, ostensibly to assure that they present no further danger, but effectively to make sure they are dead."

<snip>

"Colonel Avi Peled, commander of the IDF's regional brigade in the southern Gaza strip, will conduct the investigation into the circumstances of the death of 13-year-old Iman Alhamas, who was shot by soldiers from the Givati Brigade near the IDF Girit outpost near Tel el-Sultan in western Rafah."

<snip>

"In the meantime the investigation took a dramatic turn when company soldiers told the mass daily Yedioth Ahronoth that the company commander, who had participated in the shooting from afar, came close to the girl's body, "emptied his magazine" at her, and "confirmed the kill" by shooting at her head."

4. It's actually "anyone"
Not just "combatants", as Ha'aretz well knows.

5. If this was an Israeli child...
Edited on Tue Oct-12-04 05:37 AM by Violet_Crumble
...it would have been frontpage news in the world media, and the outrage would have hit you like a brick wall. Instead with the murder of this child there's basically silence. What sort of sick societies do we live in? For those who have the urge to justify anything the IDF does, here's some tried and true rapid responses to pop up with:

1 - 13 year old Palestinians ARE NOT children! Especially if they're anywhere near a school and carrying a book bag! That makes them combatants! What do you want the brave boys from the IDF to do? Wait like lambs to the slaughter for her to attack them with her schoolbooks???

2 - Arafat is to blame for this! If the terrorists would stop hiding behind other Arabs this unfortunate accident wouldn't have happened!

3 - AS someone who knows 2 IDF soldiers, I believe you are sadly mistaken. (this is in response to anyone who even suggests troops would deliberately aim at a child).

4 - ISRAEL RAWWWWWWKKKKKKKSSSSSS!!!!!!

Violet...
