Tens of thousands of Palestinians take to the streets
http://www.maarivintl.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=article&articleID=11624

Palestinians gather to hold spontaneous rallies in memory of their leader as powerful loudspeakers are playing Arafat’s most famous speeches.

<snip>

"Tens of thousands of Palestinians took to the streets of Gaza and the West Bank this morning as word about the death of their leader began spreading. The crowds held spontaneous rallies, in which they fired shots into the air and raised Palestinian flags.

Powerful loudspeakers are playing some of Arafat’s most famous speeches, and Palestinian television is broadcasting Koran verses on the background of the deceased leader's image.

After the official announcement, Palestinian flags at the Mukata were lowered to half-mast. Thousands of posters of the ‘Rais’ were put up on buildings throughout the territories."
