Suspicious Minds How a ragtag group of conspiracy nuts is changing public perception of 9/11
http://radaronline.com/from-the-magazine/2008/01/we_are_change_911_conspiracy_theories_alex_jones_luke_rudkow.php

.....

While few people his age can name the current national security adviser, much less the man who held the post during the Carter Administration, Rudkowski is able to run through Brzezinski's entire résumé. "This guy is CFR, Bilderberg, and Trilateral Commission," he recites breathlessly, using shorthand for the Council on Foreign Relations and the Bilderberg Group, elite policy organizations to which Brzezinski belongs. To Rudkowski, these affiliations prove that Brzezinski is one of the secret rulers of the world. And since those secret rulers were behind 9/11, it would have been unconscionable to let the man spew his lies unchallenged.

Rudkowski, who has a thick Brooklyn accent and an implacable, heavy-lidded stare reminiscent of Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront, was not directly affected by the attacks. On the morning of September 11, 2001, he was sitting in a ninth-grade Spanish class at a public high school eight miles south of the towers. None of his friends or family members died that day. But exposing the perpetrators of the plot—not the 19 patsies with box cutters, but the real criminals—had in recent years become the focus of his life. He spent Saturdays at Ground Zero with banners and pamphlets, proselytizing to passersby. He knew the material in Loose Change by heart. When he was free on weekday afternoons, which was often, he'd listen to streaming audio of the Alex Jones Show, an immensely popular conspiracy radio program out of Austin, Texas. Jones was his guru. "Seeing Alex Jones's documentaries made me realize that there are a lot of things people don't know," Rudkowski says, "that they should know."

To catch Brzezinski's speech, though, he'd have to hurry: It was scheduled to start in just over an hour, in the rarified atmosphere of the 92nd Street Y on New York's Upper East Side. Rudkowski scratched together $25 for a ticket (no small sum for a young man who'd recently been working construction for near minimum wage). "I threw on my suit that I got for $2 at the Salvation Army, and just started running," he recalls. Sitting alone in the affluent crowd, Rudkowski tried to psyche himself up during Brzezinski's formal remarks. "I was really, really scared," he says. When the floor was opened to questions, he flicked on the borrowed video camera he'd sneaked in, holding it next to his thigh, and rose to address the eminent statesman. His voice rang out hard and clear: "You gave a speech to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee where you alluded to the fact that the Bush Administration may stage a terrorist attack to justify a military action against Iran. ... How are we to know how many other terrorist incidents have been state-sponsored 'false-flag' incidents, including the largest one—the attacks of 9/11?" Then, with rising emotion: "How do we know that you ... didn't plan the attacks of 9/11?"

An appalled hush gripped the auditorium. When Brzezinski didn't immediately respond, the young man became aggressive. "Answer my question!" he yelled, then unleashed a torrent of insults. "You are a criminal! You are scum! You are New World Order scum!" The 79-year-old seemed confused, blinking and looking around the darkened room. The crowd booed.

(Photo: Henrik Olund)After Brzezinski did finally address the question—"I believe 9/11 was an Al Qaeda initiative, and has been correctly diagnosed"—a couple of "big security dudes," as Rudkowski puts it, closed in. "They were literally grabbing the camera," he says. "The guy had his two hands on me and I ducked and hit the door." "Take the tape!" someone yells in the video. Rudkowski ran outside with the security agents on his tail. After dashing several blocks, he held the camera in front of his face, still loping along, and laughed. "Yeah, Brzezinski, you got yours!" he boasted into the lens, sounding a bit like a rapper taunting a rival.

1. Wow!
Thanks! I didn't know there were new lunatics coming out! More targets of derision, I suppose, is what it amounts to. The more the merrier!

CIA, Iran & the Gulf of Tonkin By Ray McGovern

When the Tonkin Gulf incident took place in early August 1964, I was a journeyman CIA analyst in what Condoleezza Rice refers to as “the bowels of the agency.”

As a current intelligence analyst responsible for Russian policy toward Southeast Asia and China, I worked very closely with those responsible for analysis of Vietnam and China.

Out of that experience I must say that, as much as one might be tempted to laugh at the bizarre theatrical accounts of Sunday’s incident involving small Iranian boats and U.S. naval ships in the Strait of Hormuz, this is—as my old Russian professor used to insist—nothing to laugh.

The situation is so reminiscent of what happened—and didn’t happen—from Aug. 2-4, 1964, in the Gulf of Tonkin and in Washington, it is in no way funny.

At the time, the U.S. had about 16,000 troops in South Vietnam. The war that was “justified” by the Tonkin Gulf resolution of Aug. 7, 1964, led to a buildup of 535,000 U.S. troops in the late Sixties, 58,000 of whom were killed—not to mention the estimated two million Vietnamese who lost their lives by then and in the ensuing 10 years.

Ten years. How can our president speak so glibly about 10 more years of a U.S. armed presence in Iraq? He must not remember Vietnam.

IMPEACH CHENEY

They Thought They Were Free - Read by Dave Emory

The Germans, 1933-45

Excerpt from pages 166-73 of "They Thought They Were Free" First published in 1955

By Milton Mayer

But Then It Was Too Late

"What no one seemed to notice," said a colleague of mine, a philologist, "was the ever widening gap, after 1933, between the government and the people. Just think how very wide this gap was to begin with, here in Germany. And it became always wider. You know, it doesn’t make people close to their government to be told that this is a people’s government, a true democracy, or to be enrolled in civilian defense, or even to vote. All this has little, really nothing, to do with knowing one is governing.

"What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, little by little, to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if the people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security. And their sense of identification with Hitler, their trust in him, made it easier to widen this gap and reassured those who would otherwise have worried about it.

....

"Yes," I said.

"You see," my colleague went on, "one doesn’t see exactly where or how to move. Believe me, this is true. Each act, each occasion, is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, THE SHOCK DOCTRINE will join with you in resisting somehow. You don’t want to act, or even talk, alone; you don’t want to ‘go out of your way to make trouble.’ Why not?—Well, you are not in the habit of doing it. And it is not just fear, fear of standing alone, that restrains you; it is also genuine uncertainty.

"Uncertainty is a very important factor, and, instead of decreasing as time goes on, it grows. Outside, in the streets, in the general community, ‘everyone’ is happy. One hears no protest, and certainly sees none. You know, in France or Italy there would be slogans against the government painted on walls and fences; in Germany, outside the great cities, perhaps, there is not even this. In the university community, in your own community, you speak privately to your colleagues, some of whom certainly feel as you do; but what do they say? They say, ‘It’s not so bad’ or ‘You’re seeing things’ or ‘You’re an alarmist.’

5. Hey Sweet Pea...
...the Flat Earther Society's been trying to get in touch with you -- they need somebody to head up the Derison department and come up with some new innovative ridicule for putting all these tinfoil, round Earth, moon bat, lunatics in their place. Apparently, they're finding it more and more difficult to recruit for this position -- I told 'em they wouldn't be disappointed in you, you're the ideal candidate.

6. Somebody has to do it
The School of Public Humiliation is still my favorite means of letting someone know they are batshit crazy, and if someone is going to actually believe that Loose Brains...err....Change bullshit and accost someone in a public forum with such virulent and insulting accusations, all I can do is let the world know that said someone is a moronic lunatic with absolutely little or no grasp on society. In reality, this level of conspiracy theorist is demonstrating that they lack the brain functions to handle complex thought and/or complex events in life, so they search for a convenient excuse, sort of a Wal-Mart Mental Process, a one-stop shopping approach to what happened - voila, Fresh Baked Idiot and Troofer, with ALL the answers to EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!

But, as I said above, the more the merrier! We can always use more entertainment in our lives, especially entertainment of this sort. It never goes out of style! I just wish Judy Woods and her space-based zappo-destructo machine would enter back into the fray, along with the other front line idiots - Tarpley and Reynolds and such. Like a bunch of clowns at a circus piling out of a little car.

Carry on!

9. Wow -- you're not even coherent in that mangled
...train wreck of a first paragraph. Why don't you ring up Nana and see if she'll come over and help you out with your composition -- you really do need it.

11. Yo!
While I acknowledge that opening paragraph might not win any literary awards, it got the point across. And if I were you, I wouldn't go around advertising the fact that you failed Coherency 101 in HS.

Bottom line, another idiot joins the Troofer team. Bully.

12. I thought the first paragraph was quite coherent.
and accurate.

There are those that ascribe differing cognitive skills between the so called OCTer and the CT'er. I personally don't buy into that line of thought but I have to admit they might be on to something.

10. It's a hit piece with some conscience
Since the author does offer a cogent morsel here and there, even gives some credence to Alex Jones.

This is always my favorite part:

But Jones also offers compelling facts and arguments that really are too uncomfortable for most mainstream media to touch. Among those is the reality that throughout history governments have faked terror plots to advance their own interests and expand their powers. There is ample evidence that a series of terrorist bombings around Moscow in 1999 that killed hundreds of innocents and ushered Vladimir Putin into power truly was an "inside job."

Is shows how much denial is involved. Anybody can believe Putin would do such a thing (except maybe Bush, who saw an honest man), but anything closer to home is unthinkable. This is before looking at any evidence offered or debating the evidence, it's this total unwillingness to even engage the thought.

There's also this fantastically lame comment under the article: "Anyone who believes that the greatest power in the world with impeccable intelligence could pull of such a sloppy job..." How's that for a self-deconstructing argument?
