Join me in telling Alternet to f&4k off!
Aside from the valuable information I glean from DU, I typically get a lot of progressive news from two sites: Common Dreams and Alternet.

Imagine my shock when I saw the top right story on Alternet's front page was "The 10 Most Popular Conspiracy Theories."

Here's what the subhead says: "Reptilian humanoids control us? The Government carried out 9/11? Here are the 10 wackiest -- and most durable -- conspiracy theories."

Here's the article: http://www.alternet.org/story/140296/the_10_most_popular_conspiracy_theories/

And here's the link for contacting the site: http://www.alternet.org/about/contact.html

2. Thanks! It almost feels as though I've been betrayed by a family member!

I guess I can understand a progressive site that steers clear of any 9/11 discussion (sort of), but to deliberately ridicule 9/11 skepticism by placing it in the company of some certifiably wacky ideas in an obvious effort to discredit people who have the temerity to ask questions about dubious official stories is just too much.

(And speaking of too much: That was an unnecessarily long sentence. Get me rewrite! On the double!)

3. Have you considered this?
Most popular web sites do not want to risk alienating either advertisers or visitors, and in their view, 9/11 discussions
are just too controversial and could antagonize advertisers and/or visitors.

4. Of course, I have. I even alluded to it in my post
What galls me is that this poorly written article, rather than simply steering clear of all discussion of 9/11, deliberately ridicules 9/11 skepticism by placing it with such dubious company.

5. The article is entitled "10 Most Popular"

It talks about "popular" and "wacky".

Some are more popular than they are wacky, and some are more wacky than they are popular.

I'm not sure whether each listed item was intended to be both popular AND wacky.

I am disappointed that chemtrails didn't make the list, though. While Ickes reptile thing is amusing, I don't get the impression that it is a popularly held belief.

6. Chemtrails is clearly more popular
than number 10, Reptiles ruling the world, and number 9, Shakespeare didn't write all those plays.

It's just outrageous. Something must be done.

8. Sidebar - In my back yard, reptiles do rule the world
Fifteen inch alligator lizard slides down forty feet of tree to gobble some insects after I was hosing down the herb garden.

And NORAD Didn't do a thing!

LIHOP or MIHOP - you decide! (Film at eleven.)

9. It really is disturbing that the media
and a significant percentage of the public are working so aggressively to create an alienated social class comprised of those individuals who dare to challenge the lies and myths of the government.

12. Wow, what an interesting view on this
In your mind the media and public are alienating those that believe in wacky CT's. In other words you are being victimized? Yes?

10. wow, that is the dumbest thing I've ever seen on Alternet
reflects mostly on them, I think. Just pathetic to lump Elvis being alive stories with 9/11, etc.

13. Spooked the truth of the matter is no-planes and Elvis stories
are equally dumb. I'd wager, if polled no-planes would be considered even dumber.

14. It really is an idiotic article.
I thought that Alternet was better than that. I sent them a fiery and critical email.
