Torture and 9/11
"It is well past time for the Obama administration to lift the cloud that has been placed over those in the intelligence community and let them return to the job of saving American lives," the lawmakers wrote in a letter to Holder signed by nine Republican senators. An investigation that distracts the CIA, the lawmakers said, "could leave us more vulnerable to attack."

GOP senators warn Holder against CIA abuse inquiry

1)The CIA has never accounted for their pre-9/11 conduct. For example, obstructing the USS Cole investigation.

2)The CIA has never refuted Ali Soufan's testimony in which he stated the torture was counterproductive.

3)The good faith rationale for the torture program has not been substantiated. We are expected to take these Senators at their word as the CIA IG report is still classified.

Note we rarely hear the counter arguments--that the torture led to retaliation against soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and that the torture has increased the threat of terrorist attacks by bolstering terrorist recruiting. Typical authoritarian dishonesty. These Senators also seem to have contempt for the rule of law. And again this contempt for the rule of law isn't based on credible evidence of the efficacy of torture but is instead based on propaganda. One would think these Senators would be embarrassed to cheerlead for torture but sadly authoritarianism is now considered patriotic in certain fascist circles.

1. The CIA has never accounted for their pre-9/11 conduct for obstructing the USS Cole investigation
“The Republican senators, in their letter to Holder Wednesday, said the CIA IG report “has been available to the Justice Department for more than five years” and should not be used as a basis to “justify” the appointment of a special prosecutor.

The IG report has “been available to the Justice Department for more than five years,” the senators wrote. “Three former Attorneys General and numerous career prosecutors have examined the findings of that report and other evidence and determined that that facts do not support criminal prosecutions.

“It is difficult to understand what rationale could drive the Justice Department to now reverse course, reopen a five-year-old matter, and tarnish the careers, reputations, and lives of intelligence community professionals…”

But the CIA IG report stated that at least 50-60 people knew about Mihdhar and Hazmi and kept this secret from the FBI.

But they did worse than that. After the CIA and many of the people listed in the CIA IG report found out that Mihdhar and Hazmi were inside of the US on August 22, 2001, from the world wide alert issued by Margret Gillespie for Mihdhar and Hazmi on August 23, 2001, and they knew these terrorists were inside of the US in order to take part in a massive al Qaeda attack that would kill thousands of Americans, from Tom Wilshire’s email on July 23, 2001, an attack that the CIA had been warned about since April 2001, they not only kept this secret from the FBI criminal investigators on the Cole bombing, but they shut down the investigation by FBI Agent Steve Bongardt and his team of Cole bombing investigators. They had to know that as a result of their actions to shut down the only FBI criminal investigation that could have found Mihdhar and Hazmi in time to stop this terrorist attack that thousands of Americans were going to perish in these al Qaeda attacks. See the Substitution for the Testimony of John entered into the Moussaoui trial for Wilshire's email, the proof that the CIA was well aware in July 2001 that Mihdhar and Hazmi were going to take part in the next big al Qaeda terrorist attack.

This has all been covered over by the US government investigations of 9/11, not by out and out wholesale lying, but with each investigation and report carefully leaving out important and critical parts of the account, so it was not possible to see the whole picture, information which is now available and which has been carefully all put back together again.

During the Joint Inquiry public hearing on why the CIA and FBI HQ had allowed the al Qaeda terrorists to carry out the attacks on 9/11, Senator Jon Kly of Arizona, was constantly suggesting that any attempt to link the CIA to intentionally allowing the attacks on 9/11 to take place was unwarranted, in spite of the overwhelming evidence for this conclusion. The evidence presented at this hearing was that the CIA had known about Mihdhar and Hazmi, since January 2000, knew they were long time al Qaeda terrorists, and even knew that were inside of the US, but just some how did not manage to give this information to the FBI criminal investigators on the Cole bombing, even though we now know that the CIA had been aware since November 2000 that both Mihdhar and Hazmi had taken part in the planning of the Cole bombing with Walid Bin Attash at the January 2000 al Qaeda planning meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

Kyl appears to be no less than the CIA plant inside of the US Congress to protect the CIA at all costs from their criminal activities that had allowed the al Qaeda terrorists to carry out the attacks on 9/11.

Information currently available now not only proves that the CIA working with FBI HQ agents they had subjugated had intentionally allowed the attacks on 9/11 to take place, but links to PDFs of the official US government documents from official US government webs sites and sources that prove all of this can be down loaded for free right directly from web site www.eventson911.com.

2. There were two IG investigations conducted by Helgerson
The 9/11 internal review and the torture program review. AFAIK, the 9/11 review was finished in 6/04 and the torture review was finished in 5/04. Some of the named officials in the 9/11 review were key participants in the torture program.

The reason there weren't earlier Justice Department investigations is because the Bush Justice Department was corrupt. The OLC (John Yoo) wrote bullshit legal opinions to "legalize" torture. AG Holder's proposed investigation will be a farce if he pretends the Bush OLC acted in good faith.
