Since my heart is broken as, I am certain, are many of yours...
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 02:02 AM by SDuderstadt
let me propose a truce between debunkers and truthers out of respect for our mutual hero until we have had sufficient time to mourn our great loss. Who's with me?

P.S. Anyone know how to get the EMK avatar?

56. And all I did was make a joke, Spooked....
you have this proclivity for extreme hyperbole. You also have this yen for absolutely absurd and, frankly offensive (to the victims and responders, not to mention the people that devoted their time to trying to figure out what happened that day, as well as the airlines and their personnel) theories that don't deserve serious consideration.

Since you can't consider the alternative explanations which just make sense, you have to hype it up by calling it "America's Chernobyl", which is an absurd comparison without any real basis in fact. Remember the line in "Saving Private Ryan" where Sgt. Horvath makes some comment about Cpt. Miller's mother and Cpt. Miller responds by saying, "I thought YOU were my mother"? Same idea. Given the amount of time you spend yammering about "mini-nukes" and "no-planes", I was turning your subject line back on you in a playful way. I'm sorry you have no sense of humor.

So, now that you raise the issue, Spooked, I'm willing to make an exception in your case, especially given the number of times you've questioned my motivation and accused me of being a supporter of W. I don't care whether you sign on to the truce or not. Frankly, I don't think you will because you're addicted to snark too much. Found one of these lately? At all?

And please don't use "Dude" like that. I don't want to participate in that slugfest. I am not here to hurt anyone personally, SDuderstadt, OK?

Don't lump me into a category that exists in your mind. I am an individual here behind my keyboard. Ted was MY senator and I mourn him deeply.

23. Count me in on a "truce" and I will go further even.
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 11:32 AM by Bonobo
I think a "truce" would mean that we stop trying to HURT each other. It does not mean that we have to stop discussing the issue, but rather that we should discuss in a more polite and respectful manner -and that we should continue that even after today.

After watching the horrible town hall meetings on healthcare, I see that the way we speak is as important as what we say to each other.

So, my truce would be to change the whole way we speak and that we try to find common ground -really, really try.

Do you know what I am saying?

I want a truce. I want a discussion. I want calm reasoning. I do not want to be called a dumb, paranoid crazy and YOU don't want to be called a fatuous stooge.

We should agree to some ground rules about respect, not just for today, but for tomorrow and the next day.

I hopefully await your considered response.

I long to reach a common understanding because, failing that, nothing is achieved.

For today, I will let it all rest. And I thank you for taking the initiative to improve the tone here. I will do my best as well.

Thank you again and please try to extend the same courtesies to the others. I am sure many will reciprocate (but not all).

27. That makes me feel good.
9/11 was a nightmare, a nightmare for all of us.

We have all been victimized, traumatized and changed forever by that day. Some more than others, but all of us together.

How people deal with trauma varies. Some hide, some strike out blindly, some pretend it was nothing, etc, etc, etc.

But we ARE in it together and we should try to help each other find peace and resolution.

"We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearth-stone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."

18. You know...
I'm just about 5 years older than you and JFK was my first non-fictional hero. I was crushed by his assassination.

I was working for RFK when he won the CA primary. I was exhausted from the day and went to bed right after he finished speaking, but before he tried to leave the hotel. I will never, ever forget the shock, grief and the sense of hopelessness the next morning when I awoke. I was excited about his victory until I was stunned by the news.

In the years that followed, I would console myself by saying, "well, at least we still have Teddy", even though that could not erase the deep pain in my soul.

Since I learned that he had brain cancer, I had tried to prepare myself for this. However, even when he was too sick to attend Eunice's funeral, I tried to convince myself that he could rally. Call it denying reality, but it was all I had left.

Though Teddy is now gone, I will always remember the hope he brought to our nation and his deep sense of public service, when he could have just as easily languished in the family fortune. There were never any finer men than John, Bobby and Teddy but thankfully, there are and continue to be others who aspire to their sense of service and accomplishment.

I am heartbroken.

33. I post a lot over there, too.
The James Randi Educational Foundation forums. I get grief about it here because of the way JREF has become a byword among the 9/11 Truth community. However, there are many different subforums there where agreement is far from found, and the Politics one is particularly rancorous (everybody fighting over the skeptical crown there). From the very first, people have seemed determined to check the locks of one particular incident around Senator Kennedy's neck to make sure we never, ever forget it.

The trip today was something I had to do, not something I wanted to do. Driving/riding is pure torture on my neck & back, but I had to go get the rest of my aunt & uncle's belongings from their home and bring them up here. We just got a 26' moving truck up here Monday evening, and it was packed so full you couldn't have slipped a dime in it...
