Mary Schiavo on Countdown
Even on 9/11 they couldn't contact some planes and there were interceptions. 10/23/09

What planes was she talking about? As far as I know United 93 was the only plane that couldn't be contacted before it crashed in Pennsylvania that could have/would have been intercepted.

So, is she saying it was intercepted and before they could take action it miraculously was taken over by the passengers who valiantly tried to rescue themselves but were unsuccessful?

Or did she have a slip of tongue and admit United 93 was intercepted and shot down?

Her appearance on Countdown tonight was regarding the plane/pilots who overshot the Minneapolis airport for 1 1/2 hours.

1. She's talking about planes other than the four that were hijacked.
See "Touching History" for more stories about various aircraft on 9/11.

Note the time it took from the pilot sent the message, to fighters actually being scrambled.

ETA: IIRC there was also an Air China aircraft that was intercepted.

3. NO
she is NOT talking about that.

She was talking about - flights that they were unable to communicate with.

Even on 9/11 they couldn't contact some planes and there were interceptions.

7. ... which is what happened in the case of Korean Air flight 85
:eyes:

Hell, I'm fairly sure it's the closest anyone got to shooting down an airliner on that day.
