Court orders FDNY to release 9/11 attack audiotapes

New York’s Fire Department must release audiotapes and transcripts of its response to the 2001 terrorist attacks, except for portions that could cause serious pain or embarrassment to those interviewed by department, the state’s highest court ruled Thursday (3/24/2005).

The 4-3 Court of Appeals ruling comes in response to a Freedom of Information request by The New York Times to listen to tapes of 911 calls made from the World Trade Center directly after the Sept. 11 attacks, as well as firefighters’ internal interviews following the attacks.

1. Good Find: I was looking for that

a few days ago, I had a feeling the decision was coming up. Hopefully we will find ways to learn what " a case by case" basis turns into.
