Regardless of your beliefs about who did it, do you think that whoever pulled off 9/11 expected such a spectacular catastrophe and massive death toll?

In memory of our fellow citizens who lost their lives at WTC.

Tens of thousands were in the buildings, I think the early estimates were far, far more numerous.

calculating the number of floors, the number of offices on each floor, plus the people on the ground...

I remember the number creeping into the high four digits and being just sick.

KNOWING that the minimum number was still in the thousands.

They had to expect an over the top retaliation from smirk.

If I was the people of Iraq, I'd want Osama's head.

I am still amazed that it only took so little lives. And I know it sounds like an understatement, but in a way it wasn't even that much considering the buildings.

Although I believe in option 2 depending on who did it. If it was strictly AQ, it was option 2.

But if it was really a BFEE MIHOP, the probabilities of 1 and 3 are much higher. If they were do do such a thing, they would have it worked out to the Nth degree.

Not to downplay anyone who died, but I am amazed that so few did.

But the GOP got what it needed as it was.

They expected many more deaths. It's why they picked a Tuesday morning.

I'll bet that would be one helluva interesting read.

I wonder if the plan included planes dropping off the radar.

It was meant to be large scale, catastrophic, and with tons of death and destruction.

No matter who caused it, for whatever reason, they wanted to send a strong statement and may have been hoping for ten thousand deaths.

But I'm so tired of hearing the rightwingnuts trivialize the deaths of our troops by chanting numbers of soldiers who "died in one day during WWII"...yet they go on and on about the 911 deaths.

Tragic, yes. Horrific, yes. Criminal, obviously.

But also tragic, horrific and criminal (imo) are the deaths of 18,000 Americans EVERY YEAR from lack of health care. WHAT KIND OF NATION allows that many citizens to die EVERY YEAR???

If we take the bullshit figure the rightwingnuts chant for Hussein, "300,000", that's over 30 years. 10,000 a year. We allow almost DOUBLE that number to die from lack of health care!

Almost 100,000 Americans have died from lack of health care since 911. And we don't hear one single bloody word about it.

100,000+ Iraqis are dead, because of us, in 2 years...and we don't hear a word about it.

But we keep hearing all about those 2700 American deaths on 911...and even those, we NEVER hear about the CANADIANS and BRITS and GERMANS and FRENCH and etc who also died in 911.

Trivialize our soldiers' deaths, rightwingnut bastards...but make sure you ALSO trivialize the deaths of 911. Just the AMERICAN deaths in 911, of course. None of the others are important. *sarcasm*

I think they were expecting less than 3,000. If the buildings had not collapsed the death toll probably would have only been around 1,000.

I don't think they expected the buildings to fall down.

They were looking for the dramatic more than the death toll.

Even if just one of the planes skimmed one of the buildings, they would have been satisfied that they would have gotten the dramatic attack they wanted.

If the Port Authority had not done such an excellent job evacuating the terminals...
If the flights were at full capacity...
If the planes had hit the buildings at a lower point in a way which prevented everyone above the fires from getting out...
The number of casualties would have been/might have been much worse.

and it later turned out to be well under 3000. Those buildings must each have a capacity of 30,000 when fully open for business.

topple one building sideways into the other. Thankfully, that didn't happen.

This came out before and during the trial of the '93 bombers.
