Flight 93 recordings- why the english language?
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 05:37 PM by Wcross
I am curious. Why would the hijackers talk to each other in english rather than their native language? Something smells fishy to me.

2. Hmm.. could be they were from different countries,
and used English as the default language they were all familiar with?

3. Different Arabic accents
are still understandable to other Arabs. It's like Brit or American English.

24. Most of it is in Arabic, except for when they are making
"declarations" or ordering crew around.

5. Were they? Or were they using the tannoy to speak to the pax, or
talking to radar approach control???

The way they are presenting the transcripts is a bit confusing.

8. all we know is somebody's dead
Ah, the language issue. Who were these terrorists anyway?
64 thousand dollar question. Reminds me of when someone caught
the terrorists allegedly in Iraq speaking to each other in Russian,
during one of the early beheading videos. Reminds me that this
fellow running around in Florida in early 2000's by the name of
Mohammed Atta had more German friends than Middle Eastern friends,
according to his girlfriend. People say there were no Arabic names
on any of the flight manifests of the 4 planes, I haven't verified
that, can anybody verify?

31. Very sloppy counter-tinfoil.
The site claims to debunk the proposition that the hijacker pilots were trained by
the US military. According to Nafeez Ahmed, Senator Bob Graham asked the DoD to clarify
the issue of the names and birthdates to confirm that their guys were not the hijackers.
DoD's response was that the issue was complicated and they could not confirm or deny.

so they must have known english pretty well. And weren't they talking to the flight crew? That would have had to be in english, too.

11. English is the "official" language for air traffic communication.
I don't really see why you have to look any further than that. But of course, I don't eat, sleep and dream conspiracy theory.

13. Well, I think, English is the default language for air traffic control.
Don't ask me where I learned this information, but I know it was from a reliable source. Maybe from someone that does air traffic control or something along that line. There was some kind of an agreement that English would be used universally so if they are speaking to the tower maybe they didn't want to be obvious OR maybe the transcript was just translated to English.

Do we have a pilot around here that can tell me if I dreamed up the English language default for flying? I really feel almost sure I have heard that before.

28. Too late--the tinfoil panties are already bunched up.
Snopes doesn't have it yet, but I'm reasonably certain they will be on it quickly.

I THOUGHT that this was a well known fact but I'm apparently quite mistaken.

The hijackers did attend flight school so they would have been very aware of this fact.

Good on you for trying, though!

Really, I'm genuinely curious as to why you find this fishy. I can think of a dozen reasons as to why they were speaking chiefly in English. And it's my understanding that they also spoke in arabic.

22. Boy you really defend the official stories about 911 everytime you get
the chance. Why does it bother some people so much that 911 could be a lie? Everything else they tell us is a lie, but 911 is sacrosanct?

23. Far fetched conspiracy theories
bug me because I consider them to be evidence of sloppy intellectual processes. Whether it's the skull and bones bullshit or the Clintons murdered Foster and Brown crap, or most of the 9/11 stuff. I have no problem believing that bushco covered up stuff like the air quality in NY after 9/11, or that they possibly could have prevented it. I have a huge problem with believing that bushco planned and carried out the attacks. You may have noticed that those running this site have a problem with it too. I have a problem with those that keep saying the damage to the Pentagon wasn't caused by a plane, and that flight 93 was shot down. Believing those things means ignoring massive amounts of evidence and assuming that people like Bernie Sanders, who dismisses such stuff out of hand, are conspirators along with bushco. Just. Absurd.

25. I often don't agree with Cali on certain 9/11 things, but I do on this
I've read the transcript: the HUGE majority of talk between the hijackers was in Arabic... talk between the crew, etc. is in Englsih... as is "declarations" they are making -- I'm sure on purpose for the flight recorder. I read it through twice yesterday, and the transcript appears straight forward.

17. I suspect it was translated and transcribed in English --
the better to horrify the largely non-Arabic speaking listening audience.

It would be a little tough for the chicklets on CNN to work up a righteous indignation if they couldn't breathlessly quote the transcript.

29. Actors?
I put nothing -- NOTHING -- past the thugs we currently have running OUR government.

It's all too convenient -- the "heroes" who attempted to "overpower" the flight and no mention at all of any missiles or fighter jets.

It fits perfectly with what Bush and his gang of thugs WANT us to believe about that flight.

It's kind of like "Wag the Dog", if you remember that film.

30. The Arabic text was translated
Here is a link to the transcript:
http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2006/images/04/12/flight93.transcript.pdf

At the top of the first page it says, "bolded text = English translation from Arabic". The text in bold was translated (supposedly). The text that isn't bold is supposed to have been spoken in English.

32. Even so
still seems like a sloppy translation to me.

I would assume that "Allah is the Greatest" was translated from "Allahu Akbar". I've always seen that
translated as "God is Great", maybe that didn't seem foreign enough.
