Moonbeam's 7 person focus group is completely Kerry now
This time, I intentionally didn't even get on the internet immediately before the debate or DURING the debate. We also listened to no pundits, either before or after.

First, some analysis from my seven (previously undecided) friends:

"bush has one speaking style only: 'C'MON BELIEVE ME! BELIEVE ME! BELIEVE ME!"

"I'm insulted by how bush just says stuff and then acts like we should just take his word for it only because he said it!"

"bush thinks Kerry is KENNEDY? WHA?"

"What are bilaterelations?"

Numerous comments on bush's misspeaking and lots of yelling at the TV (I can pause with TiVo fortunately) when bush would perpetuate the whole "Hussein was a threat" myth.

The biggest impression the seven had was how calmly forceful Kerry was, how much Kerry nailed bush, and how in command of the facts Kerry was. They noted Kerry had brushed up on facts about Minnesotans and bush didn't seem to know how Minnesotans are doing. They noted Kerry seemed overall more gracious to Charlie Gipson, bush, and the people asking the questions than bush was.

They admitted bush did a better job this time than he did in the first, but still said Kerry won it. One woman said something interesting: "I've decided bush at his BEST still couldn't beat Kerry in a debate." I had to agree, I thought she had a good point.

I'm off to hit the polls. All seven are now voting for Kerry. The three who weren't quite there yet said this debate was very persuasive for them and the word they used most often in describing Kerry was "impressive." One guy really tickled me: he now seems genuinely EXCITED about an America under Kerry.

That's the report from suburban Dallas, Texas.

3. Minnesotans?
Okay, moonbeam, tell the truth. What were you smokin' during the debate? Can we really trust the judgment of your focus group? :)

(They were in Missouri, but you knew that)

Yeah, that's what I meant! Having never been to either state, they are the same to me.

10. Earlier today
I told her she might find the debate a bit dry and boring and she looked at me and said "Nothing Kerry says is boring to me!"

She watched it but was antsy. She yelled at bush a lot. To see a nine year old yell "BUT HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!" at the TV is a sight to behold, lemme tell ya.

16. I know three from work, four live on my street
they are three men and four women, six white, one Hispanic, all in their thirties and native Texans. None were even registered to vote until a couple of months ago. All agreed to be part of my experiment (starting a YEAR ago) with apolitical people. (I literally had to tell a couple of them who the VP was....they thought it was Colin Powell.)

They have all come to the conclusion that Kerry is their choice. They claim no party affiliation.

All but two have children, one is divorced. Three are teachers. They are all middle class.

18. "Mr. President...
Tonight you are in a debate with a presidential contender... and last I looked that contender wasn't Kennedy."

I heard Bush* say Kennedy and prayed for Kerry to spit him on his error.

Kerry didn't - I was disappointed.
