tort reform won't solve insurance premium problem
The media needs to really look at the malpractice premiums.

Tort reform won't solve anything unless it's accompanied by a serious
look at the entire insurance industry.

Premiums are rising far faster than the any shown increase in jury awards or lawsuits.

Just because the President says capping lawsuits will help doctors... doesn't make it true.

Energy companies, insurance companies, and energy companies seem like they always make money -- no matter what shape the economy is in.

Why is that?

1. The real problem is the 45 million uninsured. That drives the insurance
rates up. It is a vicious cycle that isn't going to be broken only made worse if Bush stays in office.

3. You're right they are paying in the way of their premiums. Let them
refuse to believe it until they lose their insurance because of it too. People are so stupid. The republicans have them figured out. Their list of trigger words works everytime. They respond like programmed robots.

4. These guys are running a business with 10 employees
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 10:40 PM by Rambis
Their biggest bitch is the 43,000 they pay in health care costs!!!! I always remind them that the got started in business under Dollar Bill Clinton! It just about makes them throw up. When Kerry gets in and gives them a 50% cut in employee premiums they will wet themselves.

6. Yes his plan is geared especially toward them. My husbands company
(which is small number of employees also) had 3 people who had cancer. Well guess which 3 ended up being laid off. I heard about a month ago that Bill Gates was upset because Bush was trying to get rid of the small business loan program. He really isn't for the small business guy.

5. The real problem is insurance companies want to make huge profits
And to make those profits get even huger, they invest in some risky investments. And they try to limit payments. And good quality health care is expensive - there's hardly a limit to how much people want to consume. So the companies have to raise premiums. Cutting lawsuit payouts won't solve that problem.

But it's such a hellishly complicated problem, it's very hard to talk about it without boring the universe unless you come up with a simple-sounding even if useless proposal.
