I think bush went after the moderator as a planned attack.,
His handlers obviously thought he should show some moxy. It was planned; note that he did it early on, too, in order to pull the attention off Kerry and onto him.
Brilliant move. Very tactical. I have to grudgingly hand it to him.
I think Kerry definitely won the debate, but nobody noticed. We kept waiting for bush to blow up again, and it obscured the real issues.

14. Charlie is NOT on our team

He is in the back pocket of Rove.

He just had a real job on his hands with Bush.

15. Is he that far gone?
I saw him take Condi to task after the 911 Commission came out, right here on Right-Wing WFAA TeeVee in Dallas, TX. It was Grrrrreat!!

I think he has a pair.

4. If it was planned....
...its the sort of plan that could back fire rather badly,Bush acted like a spoiled little kid in front of millions. The media can act like it didn't happen all they want but alot of people are going to remember.

6. Agree...if that's the best plan they got, then
we shouldn't have to worry much in the next 4 weeks.

5. People accused George H.W. Bush of doing that to Dan Rather
in their famous TV confrontation during Poppy's campaign, purposely provoking a confrontation to shake the notion that he was a "wimp".

7. Nothing new. Poppy did it to Dan Rather in 1988.
On live TV, Rather was asking Poppy about Iran-Contra. The old stooge was waiting for it and pounced on Dan, paraphrasingly stating "That's old news. How would you like it if I judged your entire career by those eight minutes you walked off the set?!" For many, Bush was no longer "The Wimp."

8. t may have been planned, but I don't think it worked
bush* is playing to his base. He did nothing to reach out to the middle. He just continued with the everything is great because I'm strong line, and the only ones buying that are the ones who are already sold on bush*. He's so desperate that all he can do is work to get his base to the polls. Even when he's on national tv.

And the reason why it didn't work is because he didn't look the part. Basically, he's a coward and he can't even ACT brave and strong unless he has a handpicked crowd to cheer him on.

It gave him more time to speak though. And Democrats get very little of that.

12. My impression, too,
as I mentioned in another thread ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1014325 ). I'm sure his handlers thought at least some pundits could be counted on to praise Bush for acting macho. And they might've figured this was one way to channel his temper and nervousness.

But, as I said earlier, I think it backfired. And now that more of the offline polls are in, it seems Kerry won the debate, despite the slavish praise from some of the pundits. Bush just reminded the undecided female voters who were watching of every loudmouthed jerk who ever interrupted them.

And Kerry will look better and better to all the undecided voters as facts are checked.

Bush's cocky "Need some wood?" joke is going to look particularly clueless, since Kerry was right about Bush getting some income from ownership of a lumber company. And how perfect this mistake was, after Cheney's "never met you" jab at John Edwards backfired.

13. it was a bad plan
or poor execution... Of the memorable moments of the debate, that was the most memorable, and I don't see how it can help Bush.. It only plays to the cranky image and lowers his "likeability" #s which have been dropping since the first debate.
