What was Shrub's best line?
I'm torn between his affirmation that he would not appoint any judges who would follow the Dredd Scott decision and his continuing inability to admit any mistakes.

26. It's worse than the scanner faux pas.
I can understand having someone else do all of your grocery shopping for you, but you don't even have to leave the house to use the internet.

Uncurious furious George.

They were.

Geesh, that Dred Scott thing was awful. Way to pull that out of your ass, and stupid to compare it to what you've done in your 3.5 years.

18. hehe ...
Well it's really no wonder he misunderstands Dredd Scott. They think the 14th amendment was designed for corporations and voting machines.

The unfortunate fact is that people of color were considered property at the time. Dredd Scott was a PROPERTY case, not a civil rights case!!!!

17. Dred Scott
I think his pre-debate briefing probably cited Dred Scott being a case that involved the standing of a slave in Missouri. Since he was in Missourah - he most likely short circuited and tried to connect the dots that went nowhere. That was pResidentially just plumb awful!

23. Here is an interesting discussion from a freeper-like board
freeper wrote:

Did any of you think the Presient won last night?

I was nearly as disappointed as I was last time! President Bush is no true conservative.

What point was the President trying to make by saying he wouldn't appoint judges like the brave strick-constructionist judges who decided the Dred Scott decision? Was there any real concern that he would appoint pro-slavery judges? No! That was pure pander to the colored vote. Also, Dred Scott was the all time most strict-construction decision, and it was the right decision (this does not mean I support slavery -- I just believe it was an issue for the Legislature to address by Constitutional amendment and NOT and issue that belonged to the courts to decide). No truly strict constructionist could interpret the Constitution in any way except to interpret it to confirm the constitutionality of slavery because the drafters and signers of the Constitution owned slaves and didn't immediately free their slaves upon ratifying the Constitution. What more clear evidence could you ask for as proof of the founding fathers' intent when drafting the Constitution? If the President was a true conservative, he would have pledged that he would appoint judges just exactly like the Dred Scott judges who strictly and correctly interpreted the Constitution based on clear evidence of the founding fathers' intention even though this was unpopular with the liberals.

Also, how could the President fail to admit at least three mistakes? How about (1) when he pandered to the Mexican vote by watering down our imigration laws at a time when we most need to tighten our borders? (2) when flip flopped on appointing the 9-11 commission which has just given comfort to our enemies and terrorists here in America and abroad? (3) how about when the nation was ready to pass a Constitutional amendment banning sodomy-marriage but the President refused to really push the issue by lending only a weak voice in favor of this pro-Christian amendment to the Constitution?

24. Taxes
"It's just not credible to say he's going to keep taxes down and balance budgets." Bush Oct. 8th, 2004

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/ny-debate-transcript1009,0,5298483.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines

So Bush believes tax cuts are more important than a balanced budget?
Or are his tax cuts magical?

It's hard to say what the best line is, there are so many bad ones.

25. Fav: Constitution doesn't speak to equality
The Constitution of the United States says we're all - you know, it doesn't say that. It doesn't speak to the equality of America.

Funny -- I thought that the Constitution (ok - with amendments) most definitely speaks to the equality of Americans.
