The review from the Lubbock hair salon
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 01:41 PM by wellstone_democrat
I went to a unisex salon this a.m. for a haircut---an appt made a week ago that I dreaded now given that this is Freeperland Deluxe in this part of the state.

A bit of a surprise there...instead of the "god bless the prezdent" that is generally the mantra, the mainly female clientele and staff was "upset" about his "yelling at every one." A man in the next chair told the stylist that his wife said Bush* gave her a headache and stopped watching after 30 minutes. A few gave lame "well Kerry is so bad it makes that good man angry!!!!" comments but they were hooted down by the rest who while weren't suddenly pro-Kerry *did* say very good things about his performance in both debates, were "suprised by how dignified he was" and....(drum roll please) are "furious" that they can no longer get drugs from Canada on the 'net or Mexico" (I had no idea what the policy was on the latter but hey, I was "non political and I don't watch these things!" this a.m.). One woman said her husband called Bush* a "bully" AND(!!!!) suggested that "anyone that kind of mean beats his wife. Mark my words!" That set off a fire storm of stories of half-heard/remembered "rumors" about the little prince and his homelife. We are not that far in Texas terms from his "hometown."

I've never ever ever heard this middle/upper middle class salon saying anything but hurray for the Godly Bush* and this a.m. they really didn't like his performance in either debate, they are actually criticizing him and, while I doubt a lot of them are going to vote Kerry, I suspect a few just won't show up as reliably to vote Bush*

Never thought I'd see the day any criticism was voiced here. He screwed up badly.

edit: fix quote typos

2. Very interesting for West Texas
Bush, unfortunately, will carry Texas again but with no where near the 62% he got in '00. My prediction is 52% +/- 2%. Its all anecedotal, just like your's, but my "prediction" is based on just that and what appears to be like a 3 or 4 to one Kerry to Bush bumper sticker ratio as I've traveled around the state.

5. Actually if it MIGHT be that close, then funding the Libertarian
candidate might make a difference...any idea how HE is doing in Texas?

8. No, but all races in Lubbock Country seem to be
two party: Republican and Libertarian (not that the latter really does well but when there are Democratic candidates I think its the ten Dems in the county all voting alone...)

I think the problem for them will be lower turn out. Most of these people aren't going to vote for Kerry or any "liberal" but *some* are fed up with various aspects of the admin and will stay home---which in this highly religious area is not good for the little prince.
