White House releases statement about the bump on the back

The Mystery of the Bulge in the Jacket
By ELISABETH BUMILLER

WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 - What was that bulge in the back of President Bush's suit jacket at the presidential debate in Miami last week?

First they said that pictures showing the bulge might have been doctored. But then, when the bulge turned out to be clearly visible in the television footage of the evening, they offered a different explanation.

"There was nothing under his suit jacket," said Nicolle Devenish, a campaign spokeswoman.

"It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric."

Ms. Devenish could not say why the "rumpling" was rectangular.

Nor was the bulge from a bulletproof vest, according to campaign and White House officials; they said Mr. Bush was not wearing one.

Everything about the little turd from Crawford spells psychopathic moron -- from never reading a book in his life to being drunk and coked-up past 40. To think this guy was selected for prez-nit makes me conclude the worst: That hump is an alien critter, like in Heinlein's "The Puppet Masters."

11. Right, I think the statement makes it more suspicious
People here speculated it was a microphone for the broadcast, or a bulletproof vest, or something else easily explained away.

This statement really blows that away. Is there a direct link to the NY Times? I want to make sure it's real!!

wearing body armor. You can see where the vest goes over his shoulder and there is a velco (or some other material) seam in the back. However, many BA vests fasten on the sides or in the front.

31. Because if the situation was deemed to be so dangerous
that Bush needed to wear a vest, they should have made sure Kerry had one too.

Major, major mistake if Bush showed up wearing protection and they let Kerry's ass hang out there to dry. Especially, since there was a report before the debate that there might be a terrorist attack.

I need to go google for that one.

http://www.nydailynews.com/front/breaking_news/story/236962p-203453c.html

Al Qaeda planning Miami attack for Bush-Kerry debate?

BLOOMBERG NEWS
two days before the debate.

BLOOMBERG NEWS

September 29, 2004

U.S. law enforcement agencies warned authorities in Miami that the al Qaeda terrorist organization might try to attack during the first presidential debate tomorrow, a government spokeswoman said.

The advisory by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security cited no specific intelligence that al-Qaeda was preparing to attack Miami, where President George W. Bush and Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry are scheduled to debate, said Katy Mynster, deputy press secretary for Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge.

?Although we continue to remain concerned about al-Qaeda?s desire to disrupt our democratic process, there is no information that terrorists are planning to attack this debate,? Mynster said. The debate is scheduled for 9 p.m. Miami time.

Local law enforcement agencies in Florida were advised about securing airports, harbors and other locations based on information about past al-Qaeda attacks and techniques, she said.

50. LOL! Just like the terror alert directed at schools
They put up a terror alert whenever they want to make * look important. At least Miami got one night of a more secure harbor. That's good. And different.

In the second debate, yes, it was a vest. In the first, no, not even close to enough coverage on his back. It's a rectangular box with a wire snaking up his right shoulder-blade, not a velcro strap. And not only on one side of his body. But in the second debate, yes, it's a vest, IMO.

Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 05:59 PM by unfrigginreal
Several officials, pressed for a serious answer, flatly denied that anything was fishy about the hump. These officials said they had checked and that there was nothing under Bush's jacket -- not a wire, not a transmitter, not a garage door opener. Bush was not wearing a protective vest, sources said.

signal". Never, ever?

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002058469_bushbulge09.html

Mark McKinnon, media director for the Bush campaign, categorically denied the use of any sort of communication device.

"The truth is not nearly as interesting," McKinnon told MediaChannel.org. "The president has never been assisted by any audio signal."

46. The SECOND one looks like a protective vest
Just like the pictures people were posting here trying to convince us that the first 'rumple' was a vest. Which it wasn't. That second one looks like one, though. And they clearly aren't the same thing in both pictures. The second one looks like a vest and adequately covers his back like a protective vest should. Nothing is covering *'s head because, really, in his case it's not a vital area.

The first 'rumple' was a receiver. The second was a vest. They're probably trying to convince us that the first is the same as the second. Not gonna work.

39. I read in one of the links posted earlier
in a similar thread about how easy it can be to block a signal to these wireless receivers. It's a very interesting read. Plus, there are a lot more pictures of * during the 1st debate, clearly showing the **cough** 'rumple' on his back. And snaking up his right shoulder-blade. Wiry.... I mean WILY little 'rumple'! LOL!

I'm guessing * was wired for sound and found that his receiver was blocked at different intervals. That's one of the reasons he was so awful. Some of those faces and silences could be explained by this, not to mention when he stated, "Let me finish," even though no one had attempted to stop him. Remember when * insisted on a follow-up, but went silent for nearly five full seconds after he was called on? I'd guess his signal became jammed, again, just as the reason for 'his' response was beginning to be fed to him.

That's why last time he was having all those wierd pauses and uncomfortable phrasings... He was wired, and they got caught. This time? They didn't use one because either

1) Bush pal Gibson DID let them know what the question topics would be (he had time that day)

2) Gibson told them what question topics he would choose from, so they could prepare Bush

3) Gallup polled the people on what type of question they'd like to ask! (thereby giving the Bushies the topics, so Bush could cram for the few questions..

4) Bush was hight on some sort of drugs that would make him wild and agitated, but improve his abilty to spout those stranged, canned answers. He was WAAAAYYYY too quick to answer the questions, a NORMAL person would have taken a moment to think.. he just started yelling the answer immediately.

All he's got left is his homespun, cornpone style. Some idiots describe him as being genuine, spontaneous, and the kind of guy who says what's on his mind. He prides himself on letting everyone know where HE stands. If it were proven that the Bush running for office is just a talking device, and that his public image is a canned facade, his entire campaign would fall apart like a cheap suit.

61. I've always believed that he's wired with an earpiece
ever since that horrible speech he gave after 9-11. He all of a sudden began to speak coherently (for him).

The thing is, he can't string a complete sentence together on his own without screwing up at least one word unless he's being mean about something. Being as he's dyslexic the speeches would come out pretty funny if he was using a teleprompter. So when his speech pattern is like this:

annoying short phrase... pause... eyes dart, tongue flick...annoying short phrase... pause... eyes dart, tongue flick... annoying short phrase... etc

I've always thought that he was getting fed his lines in short manageable chunks that he could just parrot. The thing is, I thought that technology would be better than having to wear a big rectangular box on your back to have a receiver in your ear.
