MoveOn Call To Action: Congressional Races...
I can't state this enough as how important it is for the Democrats to retake the House so we can ensure a Kerry administration the support he needs in starting to clean up not only the nearly 4 years of destruction by this regime, but also the 10 years of the "Contract On America" that's turned the people's house into Tom DeLay's rumpus room.

Here's an email I received from MoveOn with 5 new Congressional races (including one I'm very involved in) that are seats we can win...seats we weren't expected to...and help turn our growing momentum into a real statement.

Here's the MoveOn list:

Melissa Bean, a progressive businesswoman, has won nationwide support for her campaign to oust Phil Crane, one of the most entrenched and most conservative members of the House. In Congress since 1969, Crane has played a key part in President Bush's slashing of social programs though giant tax cuts for the very rich. Melissa Bean has a real chance to show Crane the door, with our help.

Patsy Keever is an outstanding candidate from North Carolina who worked for twenty-five years as a public school teacher and is now serving in her third term as a popular county commissioner. Her Republican opponent, Charles Taylor, votes with his party's right-wing leadership 96% of the time. Taylor has been implicated in a bank loan scandal, and has had his Congressional wages garnished because he failed to pay taxes. All this from one of the wealthiest members of Congress. Let's help Patsy Keever "clean House."

Allyson Schwartz and Joe Driscoll are both running strong campaigns for two open House seats in Pennsylvania. Open seats are rare but crucial pickup opportunities in this age of gerrymandering, and Schwartz and Driscoll are making the most of them.

Schwartz has been a long-time, key progressive leader in Pennsylvania, serving for fourteen years as a state senator. Driscoll has been a prominent community leader and business person in his district, the Lehigh Valley. Both of their Republican opponents support President Bush's war in Iraq, more tax cuts for the wealthy, and pretty much the whole right-wing agenda. Driscoll's opponent is also attacking him for seeking MoveOn's support. Let's show them we mean business.

Finally, Teresa Daly is a committed City Councilor who decided to run for Congress because her Republican Congressman and the Bush Administration were out of touch. Daly is running against John Kline, who gained his seat through an ugly and wildly distorted smear campaign two years ago. Since then, Kline's been one of Bush's staunchest supporters. Let's replace him with someone who will champion our values instead.

Cheers!

3. Thank You, Eric!
I'm been working with the Bean campaign and we're smelling a lot of blood here right in Hastert's backyard.

I feel even more motivated since my first election campaign was against Crane in 1970!!! Before him, my Congressman was Donald Von Rumsfeld! It'd be so nice to send this drunkard packing...he's such a whore for the rich in the McMansions.

We're at a big disadvantage as we're in the Chicago market and TV advertising time is extremely expensive. While the DNCC is starting to come to our aid, we need all the help we can get. Crane is already on the air with distortion ads against Bean that she's unable to answer.

We came real close in 2002...Crane's totals have come down from 70% to barely over 50% in the last election and we have the "Alan Keyes" factor working in our favor that is going to depress a lot of moderate voters.

I'm also looking to donate to other races (my accountant is about to "cut my allowance" if I keep this up...but then he's a Repugnican...LOL).

Cheers!

6. Another big reason to have a Democratic House
IF (and I don't want to ruin anyone's day), but IF Bush* steals another election, you can count on it he will be impeached. And the high crimes and misdemeanors he's guilty of, Cheney is too. So that leaves the line of succession to the Speaker of the House. Let's make sure it's Nancy Pelosi.

7. No Impeachment Without Control Of The House
If DeLay returns unscathed along with Hastert, Blunt and the rest of that cabal, there's no way any article of impeachment would ever see even the light of the Judiciary committee. Bunnypants could launch three more wars...and with these Repugnicans in control, they'll give him a rubber stamp to spend whatever he wants, set up a draft and clamp down further on dissent.

If, forbid, this regime remains in power, a Democratic house will be a powerful force...not the one we see today. It's amazing how things change when the gavel switches hands.
