Martin Luther King and Bush: Thought for the Day

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness, in a descending spiral of destruction. The chain reaction of evil must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation. -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

With respect to the Campaign:

Bush's "toughness" brings us into a "descending spiral of destruction"

Kerry, lately, has been talking about killing the enemy and, I am afraid, following Bush's descending spiral of destruction"

I am hoping that we and the Kerry/Edwards camp can be the "anti-Bush" and bring love and light to the campaign, instead of stooping to the level of our opponents.

Please share your thoughts.

1. I too have noticed the capture and kill mantra from Dems and
it doesn't set too well with me. Dems trying to show strength and toughness by such speech are climbing on an evil train I fear that is headed for a train wreck. I don't want to hear hunting down and killing someone like an animal, bringing to justice is what our legal system requires and that justice might well be the death penalty, but if Kerry is against the death penalty then how does he reconcile the hunting down and killing.

2. Swing voters wanna hear it.
So put up with it for now. I know Kerry will use his power responsibly once elected! We're not gonna have to hunt down and kill anyone unless it's really preventing us from being killed.

3. I cringe every time I hear it
I know the reason he says it is to counter the rove accusation that John Kerry is not going to be tought on the terra-ists. All a part of the republican lie that they are good for national defense, and a strong military. I never understood how $3000 hammers and $6000 toilet seats made a strong military.
I also see this used effectively and repeatedly in the "tough on crime" theme. We democrats will go to great lengths to show that, we too, are tough on crime. The so called war on drugs is a great example of this. The prisons are full now, yet there has been no reduction in the availability or use of drugs.
Maybe we should stop playing by their rules? Maybe we need to play by our rules, and make them defend their ridiculous policies, and rise to our level, instead of us descending into the spiral of destruction, as you and Dr. King so aptly put it.

4. I posted this )or tried to) at the Kerry forum, BUT
I do not know if they will post it (I get screened because I posted too much about the Bush-Nazi themes I see in this campaign).

But I know that emulating the corrupt oppressors is a very poor way of showing you are different.

Trying to "out-tough" Bush is a very poor and tragic tactic.

I pray Kerry wins.

I also pray that his approach is not "Wanted : Dead or Alive"

6. I have been preaching...
the bush/hitler comparison for close to 4 years now. The sad thing is that it is now a common belief, because the similarities are now glaring.
I have met and spoken with John Kerry, and I have every confidence that he will be a better president than the poseur that has the job now. If I did not believe this I would not have done all that i have, to see that he gets elected, nor would I vote for him. John Kerry is a smart, thoughtful, man of ethics. A man with life experiences and feelings, the likes of which bush* and his cronies will never know.
bush* is a small man, a coward, and I believe he is evil personified. He is not a smart man, nor is he one that is willing to heed the counsel of smart men. As such, he has been used by much smarter men, and he has allowed this country to be led into very immoral places.
We must all work together, for the rest of our lives, to see that these type of people are never again allowed to gain any power in this land.
If you want peace, you must be willing to work for justice !

5. I don't think he means it
But I do think he needs to say it if he has any chance of winning. The stakes are so high, I think he can forgiven a little white lie like that.

7. I agree with you
If that's what it takes to defeat Satan, then I say it's OK.
