1. Now that's a nice photo
I talked to my mom today. She said that she saw Edwards on The View, and she kept going on about how handsome he looked on the show. I think she has a big crush on him now.

His appeal to women is evident. And our vote is so important this election. This man needs to keep going on shows like this.

2. My mom too! LOL!
She's almost 70, her best friend is almost 80, and they are absolutely smitten with him! It's hysterical to overhear them talking about him. :)

3. But I hope he's not like Bobby Kennedy.
Bobby Kennedy, unlike his son, was a creep.

He was the last conviction politician who had any chance at the White House...

He was a tough minded liberal...

I don't see any RFKs around today..

11. Bobby changed after '64. I once met someone who knew JFK and RFK.
This person was close to JFK and loved him. He hated RFK but only knew RFK before '64. Everyone with any sense hated RFK before '64. He was a petulent ass with no real moral center except for an inflexible hyper-morality.

But, beginning in '64 he started to understand what was going wrong in America, and racicsm, class differences and poverty were the things he saw that were causing the problems. RFK was seriously thinking of putting MLK on his ticket as his VP which might be why they both got shot.

Here's what William Pepper says about RFK:

Ben and Julian Bond and others went up to see Bobby Kennedy who had asked, invited us all to come. I didn't know him in '68. I knew him as a much younger person when I handled the campaign of his as a citizen's chairmen in Westchester County in New York when he ran for the Senate. And I didn't like him at all. I thought he was opportunistic and all those things that you have heard about Bobby Kennedy I thought were true. I saw them, confronted them, directly.

But the Bob Kennedy who was killed in '68, I think was a very different person. I regard it as one of my sadnesses that I did not see him at the end. Because he had made an overture to Martin to run as a Vice-Presidential candidate with him. It was not generally known. But when he made his announcement, March I guess it was 15th or 16th, he made contact with Martin and I'm sure that contact was known.

Joseph Kennedy bootlegger?

Bobby was JFK's brother. Not father.

to being equal. Edwards is not Bobby Kennedy. He's just Edwards. I'll take him because he's ours now; but Bobby - no way!

RFK ran a campaign about race and class at a time when all anyone wanted was to be anti-Vietnam. He put Vietnam in the context of race and class while other candidates were totally ignoring race and class and only talking about war.

It was very similar to what happened in the primaries this year.

The photo is beautiful and I'm proud to support him, just as I would any of the other primary candidates.

13. "You sir are no Robert Kennedy"
Please don't insult Robert Kennedy that way. Edwards gets the job done I suppose, but nothing more. He fails to inspire. If he was anything like Robert Kennedy, he would have won the primaries or at least received more media time than he has been because he is just so inspirational that the networks HAVE to cover him. When Robert Kennedy was shot, my mother dropped her major and switched to sociology to become a social worker. Why? Because she knew that Robert Kennedy wasn't going to be around to bring about world peace, so we all needed to do our part. Don't even begin to compare the two.

16. And how old were you in 1968?
Just wondering if your recollection is based on a youth's inspiration or on any legitimate facts.

Edwards' political stance is very similar to Bobbie Kennedy's. Biggest difference I can think of - Kennedy was born to wealth and power -- Edwards was not.
Edwards is self made man.

17. "He fails to inspire"? Speak for yourself. Your mother needs to give you a
history lesson. RFK and JRE ran mirror campaigns. In a year when a lot of people turned to candidates who only talked about war, JRE, like RFK, talked about class and poverty.

18. Maybe not, but the comparisons don't bother me at all
I stuffed envelopes for RFK's senate campaign and met him once in his senate office. I remember a charismatic champion of social and economic justice and I don't think Edwards is so different. If anything, Edward's rise to prominence is more remarkable considering his background.

24. Looks aside he reminded me of Bobbie
when he headed for Appalachia this summer, ala Bobbie.

But he does need more experience before he's up to Bobbie's level politically.

That said, you make me wanna get some body armor for the guy. Let's not jinx him, okay?

Meanwhile, I do think he will need more political experience before we can truly compare him to Bobbie.

So lately I've been thinking...
If Cheney is Darth and Edwards is Luke, then who is Kerry?

Thought about Obie Won (Help us! You're our only hope!)

Nah.

Yoda, I should think. "Teach you I will, yes," says the grand master to the willing pupil.

25. Too bad his position on Iraq
aren't more like RFK's position on Vietnam.

Yeah he's a pretty boy. And yeah, he's the best No 2 man for the ticket.

But he's no RFK.

Yet. Who knows? Maybe someday he'll kick ass as an attorney general. Or kick an attorney general's ass into action. I'd love to see that.

But I love this photo.

Much preferable to the ghouls in the Bush administration, and to Bush's own self-satisfied smirk. No contest.
