Sinclair Story: A Rovian Masterstroke
"Stolen Honor". How many of us had heard of it before the Sinclair story hit the press? Not many, right?

If Sinclair were really to show it, how many viewers would it get - and how many of those would have been genuine undecideds/Kerry supporters?

I'm almost certain that Rove is using us and the press to ADVERTISE this dumbass film. All the news stories carry the title. It's blaring out from the TV and radio. What does the ordinary American do? Well, maybe he/she's curious. He/she goes to Google. Types in the name (which he/she has heard two dozen times by now).

And what comes up?

http://www.stolenhonor.com/

Ignore this distraction, and let's get back on the offensive.

4. Sorry
But this cannot be allowed. They are planning to pre-empt NETWORK programming to air a propaganda film slanted toward a particular candidate. The streets would be running with blood from popped Republican vessels if some broadcasting company were to try the same thing with, say, "Farenheit 9/11."
This goes BEYOND what's good for a particular campaign at any given time.

5. people wont pay for the movie on the net
I don't agree.
I think that people will not download this for the fee of 4.99 and getting them to the website will do little more than the commercials they've already seen.

I believe they do intend to air it.

10. I didn't tell you to go and visit it
...and if any DUers are stupid enough to believe what they read on a Freeptard website, they shouldn't be allowed within a hundred miles of a keyboard, let alone be reading my posts.

14. easy, david!
Seriously...just playing, as I said.

You were going to hear it from somebody, believe me. You're new here, no one knows you, and you link up to this site decrying that it is free advertising for an anti-Kerry film. I know from experience how much traffic links from this site can bring. If Karl WAS involved, and DIDN'T think of such plants on DU, I'd be even more surprised.

Trial by fire, here at DU...politics is war. War is hell. Hell is hot.

7. This is important. This (along with the previous CNN blackout) proves
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 03:58 PM by w4rma
who the *real* enemy is. Bush is only a puppet. The real enemy sits in boardrooms across the country of big buisnesses. These big buisnesses filter what most Americans see and hear through the TV and the radio.

This fight with big media is going to get more and more obvious.

19. The real enemies are the Parricidal Companies feeding on the carcase of
The American Dream. They are being aided by the Republican controlled Government and we have to stop them. This Sinclair stuff is to hide the oil for food scandal. Why don't we have a Oilfor food Gate?

8. Even if they're not advertising the film...
...they're sure as hell distracting plenty of Dems from sustained attacks on *. We need to prioritize.

9. I think this is just as likely to backfire on the Repukes
if not more so. This is Swift Boat Liars redux, only this time the Dems are fighting back fast, and hard.

15. The negative search terms don't lend itself well to a positive film
I'd like to attach the negativity of a phrase like "Stolen Honor" to *, rather than to try and push a positive, pro-Kerry film under distinctly negative terms.

17. I think the DNC doesn't care one way or the other
It's a serious misuse of the FFC broadcast license and they are taking the correct tac in fighting this.

20. I AGREE, but there's a smart way to fight it
I posted this opinion as soon as the story broke, in fact.

However, the cat is out of the bag. The place to fight this is not in the media, but where it hurts a corporation. Let advertisers know you will boycott their products (and then DO IT) if they do not withdraw ALL advertising from SBGI stations and this goes forward (a growing list of advertisers and contacts is at: http://www.boycottsbg.com/advertisers/ )

Also, if you have an account with Morgan Stanley (as I do), the brokerage firm, be aware that MS is an equity stakeholder in SBGI. Write to both MS corporate and your broker in person threatening to move your assets to a different brokerage if this goes forward and MS does not sell its equity stake. Harder than boycotting Pepsi, but if enough MS customers do this it might really put the scare on SBGI to hear rumblings from a major investor.

I have posted more information on this, and a sample letter to send to MS and your MS broker, on another thread at:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=1036518#1036969

Be polite and formal when you send letters of complaint to advertisers and brokerages. It greatly amplifies the effect of the complaint.
