Bush Attack Ad Is Questioned

By Peter Wallsten and Maura Reynolds, Times Staff Writers

WASHINGTON — With a new advertisement that accuses Sen. John F. Kerry of viewing terrorism as a "nuisance," President Bush is continuing his push to depict his Democratic opponent in a harshly negative light.

But some analysts warned Monday that his campaign was playing loose with the facts — and that the attack could backfire.

The new ad, which began appearing late Sunday on national cable stations, has drawn protests from the Kerry campaign and other critics, who say the Bush camp took a line out of context from a recent newspaper interview with the Massachusetts senator.

Some critics said the ad followed a pattern of the president distorting his rival's record on taxes, healthcare and other matters in an attempt to portray him as too liberal and unfit to lead the fight against terrorism.

2. Rove 101
Distroy your opponent by any means.
Don't talk about your own record.
Tell 'em your opponent is (fill in the blank)

In Texas, "going to take your guns" and "a lesbian".
In SC "out of control due to being tortured in Vietnam".
In Georgia "not a patriot".

Meanwhile, no one learned much about Shrub, except that "he talks like one of us" bullshit.

4. So tell me why is this one different?
Shrub has been distorting facts and taking words out of context for years. Why is this one any different?

5. IF it does turn out to be different,
I think it's because of the debates. People see
Kerry is not the bad product advertised by BushCo,
and they're getting offended, of all things, by
the lies. They can see the lies on one side about
Kerry, and on the other hand the real man who has
been seen & heard twice now in those debates,
especially compared to the flailing wailing Bush.
Also part of it I think is they beat
the swiftboatshit to death, to where mediaites were
saying it was "wearing thin" and had "run its course."
There's just kind of a human response where the
crystal seed drops in and a whole shift happens
where it's just "Enough already!" Just guesses.

8. Thugs for Kerry
My local paper - The Commercial Appeal - carried this editorial today and having seen all the posts on this site about vandalism to Kerry signs I thought it might be of interest...made my blood boil!

Thugs for Kerry ... it shouldn't happen here
By Billy Davis

There are a number of Bush-Cheney campaign materials making the rounds on conservative Web sites this political season, but one of the most appropriate is a bumper sticker seemingly disfigured by a Democrat.

It explains, "A person of tolerance and diversity keyed my car."

Democrats may shake their heads at such accusations, but what they really need to do is hang their heads in shame.

Republicans know this campaign season has sunk to a new level beyond arguments over Social Security and Iraq. But if you asked Democrats, they'd say the GOP is now the evil party supporting an evil president for re-election.

12. Talk about softball articles this Nat'l Review thing takes the cake
I can't say I'm not prejudiced but it seems to me that Bill Buckley's old rag has hired a bunch of collge sophomores to write in its pages. After the umpteenth "may" (as in "may mean" or "may be taken to suggest" etc) I realised I was reading something that was probably intended as a term paper for PoliSci 101.

I hope the author gets a real job once his skills improve.

13. Swinging wildly with Political Haymakers-Rove & Limpbod in full ct press
Not a pretty site.

These attacks lack integrity and credibility.

Their desperation is showing and all without Rovian colored blinders can see that.
