On the mythical rise of the fabled Anti-Dean
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 02:54 PM by Bucky
One idea circulating around us Clark-bars, and mentioned by Kerry, Gepheardt, and Lieberman folks, is that once the field is thinned out, the supporters of the droppers will go to whoever isn't Dean. The Dean campaign feeds this perception somewhat by cultivating the image of the contest being between him and everybody else. His comments about "I am the only Democratic candidate who..." regarding the war, tax cut repeals, and generally being not "of Washington" seem to create this Dean vs. the Party dynamic.

But the rush of endorsements that he's got since the Gore endorsement has me thinking differently. To counter the notion that there's a genuine ABD movement (there's a vibe, but not a movement) I'd like to hear yall's thoughts on whether Dean won't actually be the main beneficiary of the usual post-New Hampshire fall-off. That is, will Democrats rush toward whoever isn't Dean in the hope of salvaging the election, or will they join the bandwagon effect, running toward the guy who seems to be the probable winner?

Obviously it'll be a little of each. I'm really asking which do yall think will be the dominant trend.

1. Might want to rethink the nicknames; they have been disallowed....
I think Clark supporters, Kerry supporters, etc. would be preferable.

5. Thanks. I'll fix.
But I love the challenge of coming up with goofy names.

9. You can use an endearing goofy name
if it's of a candidate you support (my understanding of the new rules.)

3. Ithink the trend will be the usual
the bottom tier candidate, based on support and money, will drop out as the primaries progress, and people who want to WIN will move toward the front runner, whomever that is.

p.s. Lose the nicknames, or this thread will probably get locked.

4. Since Dean Is the Only One With a Self-Generated Head of Steam
He is the engine by which Bush will be ridden out of town on the proverbial rail.

The other candidates have never had what Dean has, because they've never wanted it. You cannot give away the country in the legislature and then try to take the White House.

You don't have to like the candidate to like the policies and the record. He's running for President, not beauty contest.

And as for Clark, s professional killer shouldn't try to start at the top of a new line of work (unless the goal is to outdo Bush in the senseless slaughter of American citizens by omission and commission.)

7. Clarks's a "professional killer"? Does that make me a "Gotti Democrat?"
But I love the image of Dr. Dean being "the Only One With a Self-Generated Head... " :)

8. follow the money
political activists vote with their dollars.lots of people are giving dean money. clark is doing better in fund raisinf. the others are hurting. lieberman wishes there was an abd movement, but some candidates will have to rally behind some one else. dont see any of these guys dropping out and supporting some anti-dean.

the anti deans should rally round holy joe. after all me tooism is what got the dems what they deserved in 2002.
