38. yes, the web knows were you came from
there's a HTTP variable for the "referrer"; that is, the site you were just at. Generally that means the site you followed a link from, but could also mean the site you were at before you punched it in.

that said, if I were an admin of one of these sites, I'd write code that would disregard votes referred from sites that show up in the logs too much.

56. If you copy and paste an address into a different browser window..
(I use a different browser in fact to do this), the referring logs show the post as 'typed in' or 'bookmarked'. Or at least that's what they do on my own website. I usually do that with poll links posted here, even if it takes a few seconds more.

If you just click on the link, any company's website will usually keep track of where the 'referring' link is. Regular companies do this to see where their customers/referrals are coming from. I've been on forums where someone from a company will show up and post something because their webpage was receiving a lot of hits from the forum because someone posted the company's URL there.

25. Maybe this being a 'show and tell' topic on 'The View' today with Barbara
Walters tipped the scales and got CNN interested. Hey, if Barbara can use her own wireless equipment to show how it gives the same profile as *'s bulge AND she has it on her back with a wireless earpiece that gives her info., a lot of people are suddenly very interested! Tomorrow night's debate is going to be verrrry interesting to many people!
