I am as active as anyone in helping to drop the hammer on Sinclair. I think it is important that we all spend time on the boycott.
That said, this smells like a typical Rove trick. Rove knows that SBGI is going to broadcast the smear infomercial no matter what we do. Even if SBGI's stock price drops to $.50 they will still run it.
My point is, every hour one of us spends working on a boycott is an hour we DON'T spend phone banking and organizing voter turnout. We can do both but there has to be a balance. Rove sees this as a win/win - he gets to air his piece of shit in swing states; we raise a huge stink...elevating awareness to major media status and we get distracted by focusing on the movie, not the election.
So here's my thought for what it's worth...once Kerry is elected, there will plenty of time to take SBGI apart stock share by stock share. We will be able to stop license renewalls; crash the stock; boycott advertisers; we may even be able to cause a bankruptcy. BUT -- and this is a HUUUGE BUT -- We will not be able to do all this without Kerry in the WH. Therefore, we need to stay focused on the election now (while spending a limited amount of time on SBGI) and then come back and finish them off later.
