Producer Sues Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly for Sexual Harassment Over Alleged Phone Sex

The Associated Press

NEW YORK Oct. 13, 2004 A Fox News Channel producer sued Bill O'Reilly for sexual harassment Wednesday, alleging her boss had phone sex with her against her wishes three times. Fox filed a countersuit, saying the complaint was a politically motivated extortion attempt.

The woman, Andrea Mackris, is an associate producer on "The O'Reilly Factor," a job she returned to in July after a short stint at CNN.

During a phone conversation this August, Mackris, 33, said O'Reilly suggested she buy a vibrator and was clearly excited. Before hanging up, she said, O'Reilly told her: "I appreciate the fun phone call." She contended he made a similar call Sept. 21, ending that one by saying: "Next time you'll come up to my hotel room and we'll make this happen."..."

1. They're laughing about it on Majority Report right now
Reading the "Caribbean fantasy" on air. HILARIOUS. Although, I have to say, I feel for this woman who had to endure this bs. Makes me wonder how many more women are going to come forward now. $100 says we'll see a domino affect in the next few weeks of women coming forward who were too afraid before.

9. Can't you just hear O'Lielly saying those words? He sounds just like Ted
Knight, the anchorman-doofus character on the old 'Mary Tyler Moore Show'. What a smooth talker--NOT!

3. I have a question
How do you have phone sex with someone against her wishes? I'm know this is probably just the way the writer chose to describe the situation, it just struck me as a little funny. Wouldn't "harrassing phone call" be a more appropriate description?

In any case, O'Reilly is an ass. Just wanted to point that out.

4. If she is your employee, she might very well...

be in fear of losing her job for slamming down the phone. It's clear-cut harrassment. http://www.thesmokinggun.com has the complaint, and posits the idea that she's probably got tape.

5. my thought too - why not hang up, or don't talk back. maybe her
job was threatened if she did not participate?

6. If this goes to trial, your question would be the key to O'Lielly's defense,
Rodney-King style.

"She could have stopped him at any time, just by hanging up."

"She continued to take his calls, to go to dinner with him, and even once went to his hotel room.'

"She quit Fox after the alleged harassment started, but then returned to her old job."

But I doubt a Rodney-King style defense would work. She's no Rodney King. I predict Fox will settle--quickly, for an undisclosed amount.

7. If you'll read the full complaint, you'll see it was mischaracterized here
There's another thread with a link to the full complaints (multiple pages long).

8. I see what you're saying...you're right
It isn't phone sex and shouldn't be called that. Sex in any form, even "phone sex" implies consent. This was harassment.

10. Don't you love his claim that this is "politically motivated?"
This blowhard is so full of himself, he thinks that exposing him as a hypocritical lout would actually affect the presidential election.

Here's a clue, Bill - you're not that important.
