"He's right, but..."

For the past week I've listened to pundits, Democratic hot shots and
even some Republicans start their remarks this way when discussing
Gov. Dean's statement that America is no safer with the capture of Saddam.

Usually after the "but" we get a spiel about why it's more important to
toe the politically acceptable line( God Bless America should be
playing in the background ) than to expect the public to distinguish
the difference between winning a battle and winning the war. It's the
same conventional wisdom that keeps telling us that the public will
always succumb to patriotism over truth.

Of course they felt the same way about the run up to the Iraq War.
After 24/7 propaganda pushing the war in ALL mainstream media, they
were shocked that the anti-war demonstrations drew millions of
marchers. They couldn't understand how upwards of 40% of the public
could be against a war that had at least tacit approval of both
political parties. Imagine what that figure would have been had our
party taken a stand against the war instead of trotting out all of our
Hawks to the media.

Fortunately for us, we have a candidate this time that actually has a
chance at winning the Presidency by speaking the truth. One that has
shown the ability to excite the public by listening to their concerns and
then championing their causes. The same candidate that many in the
party said "He's right, but..." when he took a stand against the invasion
of Iraq. The same candidate that led the way for Democrats to be openly
critical of Bush, while most in the party preferred the "play along to get
along" route.

It feels pretty darned good to finally be able to cast a vote for a
mainstream Democrat that's right and tactical, and not have to settle for
tactics alone.

That 'yes, but' garbage drives me impressive heights of fury; my television now has it's own Nomex suit! :P

that's what the lily-livered Dems can't fathom...someone who has the courage of his convictions. I understand it well...having had a US senator of deep convictions.
