Kerry accurately quoted Bush as saying he does not think much about Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) and is not all that concerned about him. The president protested: "I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations."


But in March 2002, Bush indeed said, "I truly am not that concerned about him. I know he is on the run." He described the terrorist leader as "marginalized," and said, "I just don't spend that much time on him."

Did nobody pick up on his desire to WAIT UNTIL A CRIME HAD BEEN COMMITTED BEFORE GOING AFTER GUN OWNERS? What the hell happened to pre-emption?

We should email on it to make it an issue. If we don't, it'll die.

All he has to say is "The president was against the department of homeland security before he was for it." I have posted those very words on DU half a dozen times, I'm sure.

FINALLY, the media pick it up and call it a "flip flop." But this was a missed opportunity by the Kerry camp -- they could have used it powerfully at each debate. SIGH.

And the best they can come up with for a Kerry misstatement is that he said he "had a health care plan for all Americans," when independent analysts say it only provide coverage for 20-25 million of the45 million now not covered. Jeez, he was using a rhetorical figure -- "for all of you" was what he actually said, meaning that that was the ideal goal of the plan, not its probable effect, and taking more than half of the 45 million uninsured back into the fold is not chopped liver. Hell, that number has *grown* by 10 million or so under the boy emperor.

Damn. Rate this story up, but also email it to everyone you know. Maybe we can get the homeland security and Osama's not a problem "flip flop" charge to stick in the next couple of weeks. I wish Kerry's people would hit it HARD.
