I thought Kerry missed the message tonight
Before I get flamed, let me say that the polls taken after the debate show that Kerry accomplished the near impossible in winning all 3 debates and 2 of them in BLOWOUT fashion. Don't mistake my comments for believing that Bush performed better than Kerry either.

In my opinion, the message tonight should have been MORE OF THE SAME. Four simple words, the words that John Edwards was able to get out in less than 30 seconds on CBS after the debate, but John Kerry was unable to use during the 90 minute long debate. The message is jobs have been lost, wages are down, health care costs are skyrocketing, and George Bush will bring 4 more years of the same problems. Kerry succeeded in mentioning the failures of the Bush economic policy, but failed to complete the point by mentioning that the Bush administration doesn't plan to change it's course. The MORE OF THE SAME mantra is perfect for today's sound bite politics, and we didn't get it out there tonight. The huge failure of the Democratic Party is the lack of sound bites and they had finally found an attack slogan that worked. I was really disappointed that John Kerry was unable to make the point that Bush has had four years to test his policies on jobs and the economy and we've seen how they work.

1. Sound bites grow old
over the course of three debates. They're great for prime time newscasts, but not after you hear the same bites over the course of 4 1/2 hours.

Whoever doesn't believe Kerry has consistently come across as more intelligent, more articulate, more competent, more presidential (dammit), there is truly no hope for.

4. YES. Even though JK has some sound bites and signature lines too,
his debate performances overall, ESPECIALLY tonight, transcend sound bites, that's why it was so damn good!

I REALLY REALLY liked his answer about the job outsourcing, telling the union dudes that he couldn't realistically promise that this will all stop given the facts, but here's what we can do, what we can work on.

Same with health care stuff. Getting concrete. I choose Blue Cross. Showing he's beyond the cute sound bites, he really cares about how this stuff works!

I realize the "sound bites" work better on some but I like what JK did.

5. I woul;d have answered a question or two differently, but then I
couldn't get nominated. He did a first rate job and has been stunningly sucessful in representing Democrats. I appreciate his service tremendously and-personally-refuse to second-guess the man who just beat an incumbent president 3-0.
