We have to call Bush on this!!!
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 11:55 AM by knight_of_the_star
John Kerry accurately quoted Bush in regards to bin Laden with the following:

Six months after he said Osama bin Laden must be caught dead or alive, this president was asked, "Where is Osama bin Laden? " He said, "I don't know. I don't really think about him very much. I'm not that concerned. "

Bush's response was:

BUSH: Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations.

ON EDIT:

Sources for the above quotation:

http://www.debates.org/pages/trans2004d.html
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6243023

What he actually said:

"So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you." (snip) "And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."

We HAVE to call him on that! I know that he said what Kerry called him on! I know that we can find the transcripts proving it! We have to dig those up and make so much noise that the media won't be able to ignore it! That alone will shoot Bush's credibility to the crapper, we can use that little gaffe to kill his campaign so solidly it will make Dukakis in a tank look like something that was reasonable. We have to dig up the transcripts in question of the interview where he said that and get the mainstream media, ALL of it, INLUDING Faux, to pay attention to it! That will kill his campaign solidly!

1. They played the video on MSNBC last night
I think it should be definitely put into a campaign ad. Voters like visual proof of lies like this.

2. Give the little bugger a break!

He's sort of right. He didn't really say those things, he was only repeating what the voice in his earpiece said.

Oooooops, I guess that isn't a very good argument, huh?

3. It's already all over the news
And the DNC already made an ad about it - I'm sure they'll replay it. This was the most tremendously stupid error shrubby-boy made in the debate. Why lie when it's so easily disproved? Both he and d*ckhead proved they just lie and lie and lie...

To paraphrase MM - why would we ever trust them again?

5. Exactly, let's keep pushing it!
Bush wants this to die! We have to push this from now until Election Day, keep reminding the voters that Bush lied to the American public on national television! We can't just let this die, we have to push it hard and constantly!

in November" and it's been on my car for months. Think I'll go out and drive around for hours. hehe

18. Why lie? Bush NEVER casually tells the truth about anything.
If he gives you the time of day, check your watch. Then go outside and check the position of the sun.

24. That is the problem with lying
After awhile it is impossible to keep track of all of your lies. That's why it is so much better to tell the truth. It's much easier to remember what you've said.

7. I sent that quote to the campaign a couple months ago, I'm glad they used
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 11:17 AM by mzmolly
it, for whatever reason. They seemed quite interested when I did, but I'm certain I'm not the only one who sent this information.

In March of 2002, Bush said “ just – he’s a person who has now been marginalized. His network is -- his host government has been destroyed. you know, I just don’t spend that much time on him really, to be honest with you. I…I truly am not that concerned about him.” Yet his own administration admits that “…bin Laden not only remains at large but also may already have ordered up another major attack.” Michael F. Scheuer, a senior C.I.A. officer with extensive counterterrorism experience told Congress that “Three years after the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and the Pentagon, the Central Intelligence Agency has fewer experienced case officers assigned to its headquarters unit dealing with Osama bin Laden than it did at the time of the attacks, despite repeated pleas from the unit’s leaders for reinforcements.”

It also right on the White House website. Bush said it on camera.

And, the DNC made an ad you can view here: http://democrats.org/idontknow/index.html

Perhaps we should urge them to air it on the tele, along with Bush denying his statement?

14. Here it is. Right on the official White House Website
Get it while you can.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/03/20020313-8.html

Q Mr. President, in your speeches now you rarely talk or mention Osama bin Laden. Why is that? Also, can you tell the American people if you have any more information, if you know if he is dead or alive? Final part -- deep in your heart, don't you truly believe that until you find out if he is dead or alive, you won't really eliminate the threat of --

THE PRESIDENT: Deep in my heart I know the man is on the run, if he's alive at all. Who knows if he's hiding in some cave or not; we haven't heard from him in a long time. And the idea of focusing on one person is -- really indicates to me people don't understand the scope of the mission.

Terror is bigger than one person. And he's just -- he's a person who's now been marginalized. His network, his host government has been destroyed. He's the ultimate parasite who found weakness, exploited it, and met his match. He is -- as I mentioned in my speech, I do mention the fact that this is a fellow who is willing to commit youngsters to their death and he, himself, tries to hide -- if, in fact, he's hiding at all.

So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you. ...

...

Q But don't you believe that the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead or alive?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, as I say, we haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.

Said it twice, 6 short months after 911.

9. What I'd like to see
I'd like to see a campaign commercial something along these lines:

Splash on screen: "LIES"

Bush, from the first debate: "My administration worked with the congress to create the department of homeland security."

Voice over (or words on screen): Not exactly, Mr. President.

Whitehouse spokesman Ari Fleischer in March '02: "You still will have agencies within the federal government that have to be coordinated. So the answer is that creating a Cabinet post doesn't solve anything."

Splash on screen: "LIES"

Cheney from the second debate: "I have not suggested there's a connection between Iraq and 9/11."

Voice over (or words on screen): Oh, really ?

Cheney in January: "there had been a meeting in Prague between Mohammed Atta, the lead hijacker, and a man named al-Ani (Ahmed Khalil Ibrahim Samir al-Ani), who was an Iraqi intelligence official in Prague, at the embassy there, in April of '01, prior to the 9/11 attacks. It has never been -- we've never been able to collect any more information on that. That was the one that possibly tied the two together to 9/11."

Splash on screen: "LIES"

Bush from last night's debate: "Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations."

Voice over (or words on screen): "If only that were true."

Bush from March, '02: ""I truly am not that concerned about him."

Voice over and words on screen: "What else is the Bush administration lying about, and why don't they want you to know the truth ?"

10. Transcripts
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/03/20020313-8.html

Scroll about 1/3 of the way down.

"So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you." (snip) "And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."

Transcript from last night:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6243023 /

KERRY: ... Six months after he said Osama bin Laden must be caught dead or alive, this president was asked, “Where is Osama bin Laden?” He said, “I don‘t know. I don‘t really think about him very much. I‘m not that concerned.”

We need a president who stays deadly focused on the real war on terror.

SCHIEFFER: Mr. President?

BUSH: Gosh, I just don‘t think I ever said I‘m not worried about Osama bin Laden. It‘s kind of one of those exaggerations.

12. Excellent!
I would advise everyone here use those and send it out to every major media outlet and network in the country. Also, for another link to the debate transcript:

http://www.debates.org/pages/trans2004d.html

I'll use those links asap to send out my e-mails. Thanks!

You should start a thread suggesting as much. If you do, it would be helpful to highlite the pertinent statements from each transcript, if you don't mind. :hi:
