Don't fall for the votepair.org trick
I've had several Republicans try to steer me towards votepair.org lately. I'm not going for it. I voted for Nader in 2000 and I'm ashamed I let the corporate media convince me that my vote didn't count because I'm in a 'Red state' so I could cast a 'protest' vote.

Not this year.

I'm voting my conscience. I'm voting for John Kerry.

1. That concept is bunk
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 01:10 PM by RatTerrier
The only people I could see anyone voting for Nader this year are ones that despise both Kerry and Bush.

I imagine most of the people who voted for Nader in 2000 are voting for Kerry this year. And I don't really consider Nader to be a threat anyway. If he wasn't running, I imagine most of his followers would be sitting home this year and not voting at all.

My advice to Nader voters? If the idea of another four years of Bush scares the hell out of you, definitely vote for Kerry. If you want to lodge a protest vote, or you can't stand either Bush or Kerry, don't encourage Nader's massive ego. Vote for Badnarik (Libertarian Party) and piss off the Republicans. I encourage any Nader voters who refuse to vote for Kerry to do this. Badnarik is similar on issues to Nader, but Libertarians tend to attract Republican-leaning voters. And while I'm not trying to pimp the Libs, if Badnarik does well this year, it will be viewed as Republicans abandoning and splintering the party. He could be the Nader of the right-wing.

3. I heard nader endorsing that site
He was on Cspan (if I remember right), I forget which, pimping votepair a few days ago. I tried to call in to talk about the freeperscam, but couldn't get through.

4. Your vote counts toward the popular vote (which proves * didn't have a
mandate from the people when he took office). THE POPULAR VOTE IS IMPORTANT!!! (I speak as someone in a strong Red State...and I'm voting, anyway!)

5. Is this the site
that has you trade your Kerry vote for a Nader vote in a swing state? I have a good friend who is doing that. I warned her that it was a scam, but she seems set on doing it. Any hard evidence that I can use to convince her?

6. Well this isn't hard evidence, but it's a hard to refute argument.
How do you know the 'swing state' voter will live up to their side of the bargain? It could easily be a Bush supporter with no intention of voting for either Kerry or Nader.

Less irrefutable, but equally compelling, for me:

How does she know - for sure - that her state will 'go red' this election - or the next? Polls bought and paid for by large corporations? How can it ever go Democratic if the Democratic voters in that state give up prior to election day? And then that poor result is used to convince them to give up prior to the next election day. It's undemocratic.

I totally reject the false red-state/blue-state paradigm, an artificial and misleading thought construct which exacerbates the destructive divisiveness in American society and politics.

10. Good Comments
She lives in Utah, and probably just assumed (there's that dirty word again!) that it would go repub. I'll pass on some of your comments and see if she can be convinced! She was previously going to vote for Bush because she didn't like John Edwards' past. She's going to med school and said that she couldn't vote for a VP who was "out to get doctors." But, she did some independent research and came to the conclusion that Kerry was (obviously) better for our country, even though she still doesn't like Edwards. I'm very proud of her for doing some digging on her own, and would hate to lose a democratic vote, especially in Utah!!

7. tell a nader voter in a swing state that you'll trade
tell them you'll vote nader in your safe state

then vote Kerry anyway. Not your fault if they're that stupid.

8. lol, although I had considered the possibility
of the person on the other side of the transaction being dishonest, I hadn't considered the possibility of being dishonest myself...

nah... it may be a good idea, but I just would rather not...

9. You have learned how they play. .
Thanks for the heads up. We are on guard for a nasty fight. It's on Bush's plate, even though his has someone else fill it.

11. They will get my vote when they pry it from my cold dead fingers...
Seriously,

Voting is not e-bay. You dont trade or negotiate. Its personal and its YOUR responsibility. There are no guarantees. How do you "know" the person you exchange with will follow your wishes... other than their word.

I would not trade my Kerry vote here in Texas for anything. I am sure we are not going to win this state, but we might make an impact on the spread.

Bottom line for me is that on Nov 3rd I want to look every repug I know in the eye with my head high and say "YES" I voted for Kerry. No matter what the outcome.

12. Use votepair to our advantage...
go ahead, sign up and say you will vote for Nader if someone else votes for Kerry...then vote for Kerry anyway. Look, this is a life or death situation. If we fool a couple nader supporters and it tilts the election, the greater good is far greater than the trick.
