I just got my call to work at the polls in our little township. I had signed up when I was there to vote in the Sept primary, so now they're starting the scheduling.
I raised the question of ballots - I said I was concerned because of what is happening in Milwaukee - that they may well not have enough ballots for everyone to vote. We vote with the GREAT ballots where you use the pen to complete the arrow that points to the candidate's name. Then it's read optically when you shove it into the machine. Of course, the paper ballots still exist after you deposit them, so they can be recounted if necessary - no chads, no pregnancies, no votes cast into the etherland.
ANYWAY, he said that in the 2000 election, we had 80-some percent turnout - about 2700 voters. The population has increased some, so he ordered 3700 ballots this time around. BUT, THE IMPORTANT THING HE SAID was that if they run out of ballots, they can run them off on the copier, and use those!!! He said it's little bit of a pain, because they have to be hand-counted, but they won't let anyone walk away without having voted!!! :bounce:
NOW is the time for people to check with their polling place to see what they have worked out as a contingency plan if there are more voters than ballots! :D I'm so happy that, at least in MY neck of the woods (blue woods that they are), EVERYBODY will get to vote!
