Campaign idea - letters with a personal touch...
The recent article (which I didn't read) about UK residents writing to Ohio voters has got me thinking...

What do you think about the idea of a bunch of us at DU writing personal letters to people we don't know in swing states? Maybe each of us could send 50 letters, hand signed, hand addressed, hand postaged to people in Nevada, New Mexico, Missouri, etc.

We can add a personal touch to a mostly non personal campaign. I, for one, am a father of a 2 year old who is nervous about him turning 6 when Bush finally leaves power. I could include a picture of him and try to appeal to their common sense. Sure some would fall on deaf ears, and some would fall on the already converted, but what could it really hurt - if enough of us do it.

If we could generate lists of registered voters' addresses in these swing states, we could just write some letters.

50 x 0.37 = $18.50

tack on a few bucks for envelopes and paper and you're looking at a $25 "donation" - which is probably NOTHING compared to what most of us have already shelled out to the DNC and various campaigns and organizations.

We could craft a general letter and then each person could personalize is, print 50 copies, sign 'em and mail 'em. What could it hurt.

But like all such endeavors, they only work if there's organization and lots of participation.

Let's say 200 DUers agree to participate and send 50 letters each, that means we're reaching 10,000 voters. Hmmmmmmmm... Maybe that's not enough.

Anyway, I was just thinking. I feel so useless in California, and I've given just about as much $ as I can possibly afford.
