Why is Drudge embargoing Kerry / Mary Cheney stories?
of all surrouding this thing, I think the fact that Drudge has to my knowledge had little if any coverage of it striking (nothing right now, nothing immediately after debates even after Lynne Cheney remarks). Any speculation as to why?

Was he muzzled by RNC because of Alex Polier (ie. Kerry intern)?
Pressure from his gay friends, perhaps even blackmail?

1. Drudge is gay. And--
--he rarely does gay-themed scandal-mongering.

6. yeah I've noticed that but
given we're two weeks away and this story is dominating the news cycle and not even providing a generic link, it's almost like a Soviet Pravda omission.

2. Because Drudge preaches to the choir
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 12:10 AM by DefenseLawyer
The "outrage about Mary" was put into play by the thugs to distract the media from Bush's train wreck of a debate for a news cycle or two. But ultimately, this issue is a LOSER for them, a huge wedge issue. The last thing Drudge wants to do is remind the mouth breathers that they have a "queer" in their midst, while at the same time reminding "mainstream" thugs that they are allied with bigots.

3. Drudge is himself gay

The Mary Cheney story is one of those things, like a psychotic episode for a schizophrenic, that demonstrates the political diseasedness of being a gay Republican.

Drudge is from the part of gay society that is 'conservative'- has so internalized homophobia that its actions toward mainstream society (gay or straight) are always subversive if not hateful outright. Idealistic and liberal gay people really really bother them- if they succeed. These people appear to ignore homophobia and pretend they've overcome it, but they're utterly fascinated by sexual prurience and sexual scandal and they have a way of admiring and advocating, if they don't engage in, immoralism. (That's the attraction to Republicans.) It's exceedingly twisted and full of pretended superiority and grossly retaliatory. The driving force is selfhatred that can't be acknowledged- until it destroys them. Have a look at David Brock's book for a much closer description.

15. It's Also Greed And Power
There's someone I know who is a gay conservative Repugnican. He won't admit the gay, but it's an "open secret" and I really don't care. As long as we avoid politics and stick to business, things are just fine.

This guy's big thing is making money...a compulsive condition. He doesn't care how he makes the money or how he gets it...cutting corners to fudge deals are common and it's all making "the kill" that counts. There are no faces other than Washingtons and Lincolns in this world.

For the past two years his company has been picking apart the remaining bones of the busted dot comers and buying up and gutting companies he helped IPO in the 90's.

The need to win and be accepted by other rich people is all that matters. So I don't think it's as much self-loathing as it's pure greed and the games they play to get the money/power they crave.

7. As others have said..
Drudge is closeted; if you really want a laugh, google Drudge's first "Reports" on the alt.showbiz.gossip NG around 1993-95 approx. It's eye-opening stuff..

8. CNN are bigger whores than Drudge

Actually most of the mainstream media are bigger whores than Matt Drudge.

Please re-read that line, you now have proof its true, so that bears repeating...

The US mainstream media are bigger whores than Matt Drudge.

9. I really don't think it comes down to
who is a "whore", they all are in their own special way. I think the thugs pushed the story in the "mainstream" media as a diversion, which, being whores, they lapped right up without blinking. But Drudge's main audience is the Republican base, ultimately the thugs really don't want to push this wedge issue on their base.

10. if you heard Dobbs or Cafferty today
they're saying there's a huge e-mail response by both sides, more than any other current issue. So when they do segments on it, the ratings go up. Sexuality + presidential politics = ratings

11. Which explains why
as Rove knew they would, CNN and others would run with it. But that being said, I still don't believe their long term strategy is to have the base, i.e. Drudge readers, focusing on the hedonistic sinner in their midst.
