New Poll Shows Bush Lead Over Kerry Narrows In Georgia
A new poll says President George W. Bush maintains a lead over John Kerry among Georgia voters, though the Democratic challenger is gaining ground.

The poll of 503 likely voters conducted Wednesday and Thursday for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and WSB-TV says Bush leads the Massachusetts senator 51 percent to 41 percent. Eight percent were undecided. The margin of error was plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

The results show the gap between the two narrowing. A poll for the newspaper conducted a week earlier showed Republican incumbent Bush leading among likely Georgia voters 54 percent to 39 percent.

The latest poll shows that Georgia voters favor Bush by a narrow margin on several domestic issues, including health care, jobs and the economy.

2. The last sentence just blows my mind. How ANYONE can vote
for Shrub on the basis of health care, jobs and the economy when he has trashed all three, is beyond my comprehension. Are they all clones who have been programmed?

4. From what the talking heads are saying
that people are afraid Kerry's medical plan will cost too much.

You know....like the war in Iraq is chump change.

5. County health clinics
That's one area I think this campaign overlooked entirely. It's on Bush's web site. He is proposing a health clinic, staffed with doctors, in every county in America. Government health care? The cost? This is the perfect counter to their health care attack. And rural America won't like it because the county seat is too far for them to go when their kid is sick anyway. AND, rural people all know and love somebody who uses Medicaid or SCHIP for their health care. Two health care systems, like we already have two education systems. Nope, we could bury Bush with that.

3. Georgia? The state of Georgia???
Wouldn't this be so sweet?!

There's still quite a gap but this is encouraging.

8. It's possible, but I still won't hold my breath. Here's why
Georgia's registration is up 54% percent from 2000. In the last year alone, over 353,000 new people registered. Several fantastic groups have been plugging away at this for quite some time and I tip my hat to you all, myself included :)

There are pockets of holdouts all over the state. The metro Atlanta area is 99.99% a sure thing for the Democrats. The Savannah area on the coast is fairly liberal as well. And there is a pocket of Democratic counties in the lower left side of the state. If these area remain true to form, it looks good for us here.

Also, never ever count out the silent majority of people who don't put up yard signs or run out to put the bumper stickers on their cars. These are the people who have lost their jobs, whether they be the high tech jobs that came here in the 90s and then went bust, or the manufacturing jobs that went away under this administration and a Republican governor (the first since Reconstruction). He's doing a pathetic job and people are really starting to let him know it.

It can be done, but most likely won't. It will however, make the national party pay attention to us. Our state party is in a shambles. No organization whatsoever. If there had been the slightest bit of leadership, I feel it might be closer, because we could have nailed Bush on the jobs and health care issue here, but no one pays attention. Also, local newspapers are ridiculously right-wing. Most people outside the metro Atlanta area don't like and won't read the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which did endorse Kerry. They've completely drank all the kool-aid and bought into the liberal media crap.

But if it does really happen, it will be because this state finally wised up to the concept of self-preservation.

9. I agree with you about Ga., but there is one other factor.
The hispanic population has skyrocketed here. There's a special on CNN, on Sunday I think, about Ga being the state with the fastest growing hispanic population. I have no idea how many are legal and can vote, but it also could have a big impact.

I am crossing my fingers. How sweet it would be if shrub lost Ga!

11. It's sad about Georgia
how right wing it is now, and it was Carter's home state.

12. Excellent Analysis......
I'm not holding my breath either, but GA going blue isn't necessarily a total pipe-dream.

I'm surprised driving around the wealthier suburbs outside Atlanta, that there are people with Kerry signs out in their yards, as many as their are Bush signs (not much on either account), and i've also seen a few more kerry bumper stickers in the last week or so.

I think the one thing that will work in our favor is the Kerry/Edwards populism.

When i talk to rural people, they believe higher education should be free, they believe that healthcare should be free, a hike in minimum wage is appareciated.

Of course where that diverges is when you get to those classic rural lifestyle issues.

Many believe the war is good (still) as well.

14. I've never had anything happen to my car, but
after last night, I have had 5, yes that's right 5, Kerry/Edwards yars signs either vandalized or stolen.

I'll be making my own sign for the Hilter, I mean Bush Youth and/or pathetic excuse for a human adult to try (and let me emphasize TRY) to remove.
