40. Popper was thrown off a tour bus by the driver 'cause of guns.
I heard it from the bus driver when I was on a tour.

The same African-American driver told me about getting a busload of KKK nuts when noone else would drive them. He called the cops and ditched them when they started gloating over what they wanted to do to him.

I always thought they were sort of wannabes.. posers.. writing a lot of songs with very little intellectual or emotional content.

Now I guess I know why.

3. Not true according to his publicist
JUST PUSH PAUSE You really can't believe everything you read. Last week, on the eve of the Republican National Convention, the conservative Washington Times reported President Bush has a long list of celebrity supporters, including singer Steven Tyler. Huh? Since when was Aerosmith interested in politics? The band's LA-based publicist, Mitch Schneider, called to say that while Tyler may have been a Bush supporter at one point, he's "taking another direction." John Kerry? Ralph Nader? Schneider would only say, "Steven's taking another direction."

He has done a couple of pretty good movies lately - including Saved! which is now on video and the one about the NYC club scene with Seth Green based on a true story which was pretty awesome (the book was better, of course)- can't remember the name.

sorry - i've started to like his new incarnation so i felt like defending it.

And the real Lynyrd Skynyrd's been dead longer than that. And I don't remember them being Republicans either. "Saturday Night Special" was a rather bold anti-handgun statement, especially coming from a bunch of Southern boys.

He always struck me as a smarmy guy when he wasn't in character, so I never bothered to read any interviews with him because at the time, I still enjoyed watching 'Frasier' and didn't want to ruin it for myself by having to know he was an arse. I just remember a genuinely sickening interview with him in early '02 that made my stomach churn.

Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 06:13 PM by rezmutt
Grammer's had more than his fair share of personal tragedy. It's no surprise that his sanity has been severely rocked, and that his political preference leans toward a party with such a repressive, black-and-white worldview.

http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Kelsey-Grammer
<snip>
Grammer's life has been marked by tragedy and, as a result, occasional depression and substance abuse. His father was murdered in the Virgin Islands; his sister was murdered after leaving a Red Lobster restaurant in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and his brother was killed in a shark attack. Bravely putting his personal tragedies behind him, Grammer currently seems to be optimistic and happy with his third wife and child.

On his set the children are in a room with a narrow eisle between a long table and the window. When girls are in the room standing with their backs to the table, he will walk sidewides through the eisle rubbing up against the young girls who don't run to another location.

One young girl was injured on his set (through no fault of her own) and he tried to have her blacklisted in the industry.

17. Another source
Other actors who've been in Bush's corner include Freddie Prinze Jr., Jason Priestley, Bo Derek, Shannen Doherty, Kelsey Grammer and bohemian right-winger Vincent Gallo, who once called left-wing author and radio talker Al Franken a "commie crawfish."

But Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kid Rock, Britney Spears, Ted Nugent, and Steve Tyler of Aerosmith are fans of the President. So is punk-rock guitarist Johnny Ramone of the Ramones, who urges musician pals to donate to Bush's campaign. "I try to make a dent in people when I can," he said in a March interview with the Washington Times. "I figure people drift toward liberalism at a young age, and I always hope that they change when they see how the world really is."

Among the finds was ditzy conservative Jessica Simpson, who's become a frequent White House visitor. Upon being introduced in March to Gale Norton, secretary of the interior, Simpson gushed, "I love what you've done to the place."

21. Nope Steven Tyler is a Kery supporter
I posted this in the lounge awhile back

"Tyler also expressed his support of Presidential candidate John Kerry. "John (Kerry) and I are good friends. I speak to him a lot. Unfortunately, we're playing the night he's doing (the convention). He asked if we'd play it. I told him if he's elected president, on your inaugural, we'll play."

"Each guy (in Aerosmith) has got different opinions. I think all the presidents have a downfall. They try to do as much as they can egotistically. They say `for the people' and `of the people,' but it's not always that. It's for their own star."

"John Kerry's a different kind of guy. When you're talking to him, you feel you're talking to a guy who's had a lot of experience. He looks you square in the eye. He has a really strong belief system. I'm a big fan."

LOBOTOMY! LOBOTOMY! LOBOTOMY!

Second place to:

"We're a happy family/we're a happy family/ we're a happy family/ me mom and daddy
Friends with the president/friends with the pope/we're all making a fortune/ sellin' daddy's dope"

Fuck the Ramones. They always sucked. That was what made them charming for about 6 months of my high school years. Then I discovered real punk (aka The Clash) and never looked back at those poseurs.

WTF is this shinola?

I was an extremely conservative Dem when I was younger (the result of growing up with two conservative parents but a fairly liberal extended family) and started "drifting towards liberalism" AFTER I grew up and saw how the world really was. God, that comment pisses me off.

I think Republicans who say that probably mean "after I grew up and started making lots of money and didn't want anyone else gettin' any."

Grrr.

According to this article in the Telegraph dated August 25, 2004:

The president does have his share of celebrity supporters, though they are not as vocal or active as their Democratic counterparts. Bush supporters include the actors Kelsey Grammer, star of Frasier, Lara Flynn Boyle, Bruce Willis, Charlton Heston and Mel Gibson. Younger supporters include the Friends star Matt Le Blanc and the singers Jessica Simpson, Ricky Martin and Britney Spears.

43. The only one on the list I'm bummed out about is John Popper
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 04:02 PM by RatTerrier
Blues Traveler is a great band. I'll still listen to them, though. Unlike freepers, I don't believe in boycotting anyone just because they're not voting for my guy. Three Doors Down is nothing but horseshit corporate rock. They can rot in hell with all their sound-alike songs.

Here's a few other names for the list:

Ted Nugent: His Web site, under the headline "Attention America -- Vote or Die," proclaims: "Our primary objective is to turn out as many votes as humanly possible for George W. Bush."

Sammy Hagar: A satire Bush/Cheney 2004 site announces that Osama bin Laden's favorite rock band is Sammy Hagar-era Van Halen.

Wayne Newton: Dubya is a Wayniac.

Toby Keith: Author of the pro-Bush anthem "The Angry American (Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue)" and basher of the Dixie Chicks.

C.C. DeVille (Poison): Hair metal knows no political bounds.

Johnny Ramone: "God bless President Bush," he announced at the Ramones' inauguration to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

James Hetfield of Metallica: Apparently hates Democrats more than he hates the rest of his bandmates.

John Popper of Blues Traveler: Describes himself as "a libertarian who is a Republican when pushed."

Kid Rock: Likes blondes, boobs and Bush.

Britney Spears: Told CNN last year: "I think we should just trust our president in every decision he makes and should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens."

Ricky Martin: Who knew the Grand Old Party lived La Vida Loca?

52. thoughts on Ms. Spears (politically, not musically) and others in general
She expressed a sentiment at the time that was shared by many people - including some of our own senators and primary presidential candidates. The difference, I believe, is that she was being totally sheep-like in her statement and didn't have a clue about which she spoke. In reality, she probably still isn't too informed on the issues BUT I'd be willing to bet the crowd she hangs out with now have swayed her opinion to the other side.

The only way I believe someone is truly a supporter of one political ideology is if they have contributed money and time to the cause and/or have been very outspoken about it.

I don't believe one is a supporter of one political party if they, for example, perform at a presidential inauguration. To me this is indicative of wanting a high profile gig and being, at least, non-political. There was a thread a while back where Beyonce Knowles was considered a Bush supporter for performing at his inauguration. I don't feel this is enough to label one as a Bush supporter.

Though I have never met Ms. Knowles (or Spears), I have met many performers and producers from being in radio and I can say they are either non-political or very liberal for the most part.

In regards to the country and southern rock acts mentioned, what do you expect?

I would, though, like to see evidence on the people in question this list is based on. Some I'm surprised at, others I'm not.

Travis Tritt, Sara Evans, and especially Lee Ann Womack are talented. :-(

I also own 3 Doors Down CDs and they aren't bad.

57. Do NOT believe this shit. These right-wing moron websites get people
to believe that celebs support Bush who don't for the most cockamamy reasons imaginable.

That list only has a couple people I know to be falsely associated with Bush support but most of the lists on the web are Bullshit. The most famous list at that "celiberal" site is the most retarded imaginable.

Marshall Tucker is probably more famous for having their name mentioned in that Charlie Daniels classic 'The South is Gonna Do It Again'. Boneheads.

There may be two original members left in that band. I only know this because they, and I, are from SC.

On edit: I got curious. They have a website. One original member.
