The "Political Compass" Presents "US Presidential Primaries"
We've scrutinised the statements and, more tellingly, the voting records of the hopefuls of the two major parties, in response to requests from many of our American visitors.
Within the United States , of course, real (and imagined) differences between the candidates are more greatly magnified. However, compared to other western democracies, especially those with a finely-tuned system of proportional representation, most mainstream political activity in the US is concentrated over a more narrow ideological range. We note too that conservative Democrats tend to have more in common with Republicans than with the liberals within their own ranks.

1. Thanks, Though I've Seen Other Compasses With Different Results

using same layout. Perhaps different criteria.

How can one deduce a Candidate's answers to all these questions anyway?

This is an English website IIRC. Whomever did the chart with all the Candidates may not be familiar with their positions...

2. Edwards
I'm not bothered by how far to the right they put him as how high they put him to the authoritarian part.

Kerry's position on the authoritarian scale is a surprise because he comes across as quite patrician/finger wagging at times.

3. It's kind of like with the new voting machines
You get to see the results but don't know anything about the software written to generate them. Data in, data out, but what goes on inside the black box?
