TAKE BACK THE MEDIA THIS WEEK!!!
Much of last week was dominated by the Cheney story - we can't let the Repugs dictate the news again. We need to get large, organized media blitzes going EVERY DAY this week.

Topics that are current targets for the media should include:

- Soldiers refusal of orders due to lack of preparation.
- The Bush flu (including flip-flop on Canadian drugs)
- Rove's testimony in the Plame investigation
- Increased gas prices
- Upcoming economic data
- Going Upriver DVD release on Tuesday

The important thing is to be TARGETED. A blitz on several targets at once will drown each of the others out. We need to select one each day and blitz on that single target.

1. I agree. We should have Skinner coordinate this with the other blogs!
I have always wanted to do something like this...just like the neo-cons have their daily talking points.

2. I totally disagree.
I think we need to harp about different things...other than "Going Upriver", that's a good one.

The media is already into the Flu thing, and the Kerry campaign has been pushing it and has a good ad out on it. Why do WE need to demand it be covered, it's being covered??

Rove's testimony is a non-story so far, isn't it? Are there any details out? What should the media talk about?

The soldier thing is much like the Flu thing above.

Gas prices....eh.

Upcoming economic data. We want the media to cover data that hasn't been released yet?

Here's the stuff I believe the media needs reminding of:

The revelations in the Nightline special about some of John O'Neils claims.

The fact that republicans are using some kind of "they'll say anything" campaign tactic.
The talking points they're insulting our intelligence with are Mary Cheney and a supposed democrat promise of miracle cures.

The fact that Sinclair broadcasting is engaged in electioneering, which is illegal for a broadcaster. Mention also that in spite of media headlines....the FCC "CAN'T" stop it, not "WON'T" stop it.

The fact that they're not educating the public about the facts of the stem cell research debate. They're dwelling on the republican denials and hollow talking points instead of reporting the objective truth.

4. While I agree with some of what you say...
The Republicans want us to talk about the Swiftboat Veterans
The Republicans want us to talk about Mary Cheney
The Republicans want us to talk about the Sinclair Documentary

They are setting the table and inviting us to it. We need to cook up OUR issues and stuff it down their throats.

5. Still disagree...

I don't suggest we talk about M.C.
Tell the media that this new republican message of "they'll say anything" which involves M.C. and democrat promises of miracle cures is BULLSHIT! The focus is republican BULLSHIT, not M.C.
If they keep mentioning M.C., what should we do? Ignore it?

As for the Nightline thing and how it relates to SBVT, I think you need to face reality. There's a 45 minute show that is likely going to air (in spite of our efforts) and we need to start preempting it with the revelations that Nightline gave us. We want anyone who watches that show to have an idea of "well, this is entertaining...but from what I've read/heard I can't really trust these people" floating in the back of thier minds.

7. Do we want to win?
If we want to win, we talk about what the campaign is talking about. Help them keep their campaign tactics in the media. Because if we don't talk about it, the media won't talk about it, and it has no affect.

Flu, outsourcing flu vaccine, Canadian flip-flop, Bush failure.

Oil just hit $55 and the media hasn't been covering this at all. What is this going to really mean for heating this winter and gas prices next year? Nobody has said. Nobody has made it real yet.

The "soldier thing"??? My god. That is the story of the year. Have you read the NYT piece in LBN? It is heartbreaking. Soldiers are coming out of the woodwork saying, yep, me too. The one guy who refused the order is a 24 year reservist, no namby pamby there. We have to help those kids over there, election or no. The military will try to sweep this under the rug and we can't let them.

I disagree with you. The media only covers so many stories at a time and we have to make sure they're the stories that the campaign has decided are important. Or that are so important we can't ignore, like Plame and the suicide mission.
