Our guys completely lost the spin following the third debate...
For one, Kerry should have just apologized the night of the debate for his comment about Mary Cheney...I agree that the issue is really a non-issue, but our guys have to be smarter and should have understood early on how the press would play this story. Having to defend Kerry's comments has sucked the wind out of the campaign. They better get their act together or the sense of an inevitable Bush victory will start sink-in and depress turn-out.

1. Nah, you're worrying about nothing.
No one is undecided at this point. Anyone who says they are is lying or too stupid to vote anyway. Early voting starts today. It's on.

2. Yeah, but even the spin is in our favor...
If the best they got is "Mary Cheney ought to have been left in the closet where she belongs" they're not going to win.

23. I agree. And Mary Cheney was hardly in the closet. She
was Coors' representative to the gay and lesbian communities. She was, in effect, a professional lesbian.

Now Mama Lynn, soft core lesbian porn not withstanding, is another matter.

3. Apologize?
You mean you think he said something wrong or insulting?

This is incredible!
At the same time, the bin Laden lie is absolutely OK.
Fucking librul media.

That's ridiculous. I think you need to spend less time listening to the spin.

25. Agreed.
It would have been worse to apologize. Kerry did nothing wrong. Would anybody have been upset if Kerry had mentioned that Condi Rice is balck? No. Know why? Cuz there's nothing shameful about being black. Same deal here. Nothing wrong with mentioning that Mary Cheney is gay, cuz there's nothing shameful about being gay.

Much ado about nothing ... right-wing spin, and weak spin at that.

Just get out the vote. :smoke:

5. Right, everyone's focused on remarks about Mary Cheney. Why would
you say that there's going to be a 'sense of an inevitable' bush* victory that will depress turn-out. Everything I've seen says that the opposite is happening.

Give the American people some credit. It's the economy, Iraq, jobs, the price of oil that's important to people, not Mary Cheney.

10. Congratulate Cheney?
on tolerance? Tolerance isn't respect, it's just bigotry behind a veil of politeness. Or in Cheney's case, maybe it's just trying to keep peace in the family--and a damn good GBLT GOP outreach rep in his daughter.

it admits a mistake and that would only add fuel to controversy. Kerry pushed it but he wasnt wrong.

All we need is to get on the attack again. And Bush just gave us a bunch of great issues to attack him with.

13. Apologize? NO WAY!
I thought the mary remark was a lousy idea and did change the debate spin dynamic. But no way should Kerry have apologized. As far as the inevitable bush victory bull, that's absurd. This election is close, the polls indicate it's a lot closer than 2000, and Gore won that. It's not going to break for bush.

15. Never apologize.
You're suggesting an apologize shows that you completely misunderstand the press spin cycle.

An apology doesn't stop the story...it facilitates. Cause then you get several days worth of stories about how there was internal squabbling over whether or not to apologize, the Cheney's get to react to the apology, the Kerry campaign reacts to the reaction.

Everyone who is suggesting an apology just doesn't have a clue. Sorry.

18. oh, BS--and apologize for WHAT?
rather, he should point out that the repukes didn't seen to have a problem with Alan Keyes passing judgment on Mary Cheney. I guess her "sexual orientation" can be mentioned, commented on, hyped up, condemned or whatever by repukes ONLY. Apparently for anyone who hasn't signed a loyalty oath to even come near this subject is to invite scandal.

#%(*^ hypocrite scumbags.

19. Why should Kerry apologize,
what did he say that was wrong? We Dems need to stop tripping over ourselves in a rush to apologize for nothing. Cheney wouldn't apologize to Leahy and the Senate when he told Leahy to go eff himself (that was an instant that cried out for an apology). We need to show backbone and conviction when we believe we are correct, and Kerry was correct in his assessment of being gay.

24. At least he should have had people from HRC, Gephardt's daughter, etc.
out there on the morning shows following the debate. The fact that the GOP was allowed to portray Kerry as the anti-gay candidate, when it's really the Bush campaign that has been cynically exploiting antigay sentiment, is a testament to the Bush/Cheney campaign's skill when it comes to manipulating the press. The fact is, the Republicans are still much better at this than we are.
