CNN apparently backs off Gallup B.S.
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 06:52 AM by Flubadubya
CNN must have gotten a big kick in the chops over the Gallup poll results yesterday. Even James Carville lashed out on Crossfire about it, exhorting "Mr. Gallup" (his words) to "stop screwing with that poll". He then went on to say to "Mr. Gallup", "I'm your Daddy! Now stop messin' with those numbers".

Later, on Lou Dobbs, Lou asked Ron Brownstein about the Gallup poll numbers showing a 12-point lead for Bush. Mr. Brownstein, to his credit, said that it was "the most volatile poll over the last several years and probably did not reflect the situation on the ground". Lou asked him if he was questioning the veracity of their (CNN's) poll numbers. Ron simply repeated about it being the most volatile poll over the last several years. Lou just smiled and went on.

I have watched closely this a.m. and at first Carol Costello gave a major nationwide poll result (sorry didn't catch which one) that showed the race at 46% to 46%... dead heat. She did NOT mention Gallup. She later had Frank Newport on (from Gallup) who was discussing the numbers in various states until CNN lost the feed on him. He never did mention the overall "horse race" numbers.

Now, Hemmer and O'Brien are on and they finally mentioned poll numbers which reflected an "average of national polls" which had Bush 50% and Kerry 45%, but still no mention of Gallup. You can be sure they included the Gallup numbers in the average (why else Bush at 50% still?), but, nonetheless, no mention of Gallup specifically.

Looks like they've had their little hineys spanked and are behaving a little better today. Hah! :spank:

2. Quite simply...
They cannot continue to flog a poll that outlies so far that it has no relationship to any sane reality.

CNN is without a soul. They have abandoned everything that brought them to this dance, initially. Like integrity.

3. Their 'poll of polls' is just as big a scam as Gallup
Zogby, Rasmussen and CBS/NYTimes are not part of it. Why would they be with Bush struggling in those polls?

4. Zogby Should Be Part Of The Poll of Polls
I am on the record as having problems with Zogby, Rasmussen, and Gallup but for different reasons...

Unlike Gallup and Zogby, Rasmussen's use of automated callers is still controversial in the industry...

As Charley Cook says about Survey USA and Rasmussen who use automated callers "you don't know if a nine year old is answering the survey."

The Gallup poll's skewed numbers skews the average of the poll of polls by being so off...

Here's why...

If you and me are having a beer at a bar and Bill Gates sits at our table the average income of the patrons at that table is over one billion dollars...

6. I'll bet that CNN/USA Today drop Gallup
It's too late for them to do it this year, but they'll ditch Gallup.

7. I don't know...
it seems to tell them what they want to hear. It's just that they can't keep expounding those numbers when they are such extreme outliers without losing cred. Of course, it would appear that Gallup hasn't much regard for their own credibility either, though.

9. How is it that CNN loses the feed
every time someone says something the boardroom won't like (or begins telling the truth)?

CNN is more toast than *.

At least FAUX doesn't pretend to be something they're not; a reputable news network...
