Kerry should cancel Inauguration celebrations
What if Kerry says:

"I will not be a part-time war president. Immediately after I am sworn in as your new president I will go directly to the White House. There I will meet with my military and intelligence advisors in emergency session.

I will postpone Inaugural celebrations until we are on the road to peace and security.

We are in a war not of our choosing. I will not waste a single day celebrating when I should be working to end this war and bring our troops home.

When one half of our troops have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan America will celebrate my inauguration.

I will not take a single day of vacation until that day."

This pledge would send a powerful message about the way nonchalant, lazy Bush treats his "War Presidency".

1. No way.
I want the Repukes to have to suffer through ALL the Inauguration news on the television.

Kerry can work AND have others celebrate his victory, but he must show up at the Inauguration celebrations too.

3. I'm going to party for days
But I want Kerry to win with as big a margin as possible.

I think postponing the Inauguration parties would have great symbolic weight.

Willing to put money on that?
Worst case scenario, Kerry loses by 2% of the popular vote. You are confused on exactly how equally divided this nation is. It is that confusion that leads to stupid actions that further cause division in this country instead of trying to heal the rift.

14. The majority of this country needs the emotional release
of a massive celebration. It'll mark the end of the recent rise of fascism. It's only one day, no harm, no foul. It's a significant milestone for many reasons.

18. Yep, stark raving bonkers
I'm not saying we should cancel the swearing in. That would be too sweet to miss.

16. I predict . . .

That Kerry's inaugural will be the site of fairly violent right wing protests, perhaps not quite akin to GWB's in '00 (I was there -- what was not reported on the national news was an extraordinary level of near-serious violence).

You know what? I don't give a fuck. I'm going to be there and if the righties get uppity I'm going to kick some GOP ass. It's been a long time coming. This time, the cops will have to be on our side, if they are doing their job.

19. Tough call...Great Populist politics but the nation deserves a party
Is it appropriate? Tough call...

Not having one is a teriffic message.

Did Ike have one in 1952? FDR in 1945? Nixon most assuredly did in 1972.
