No fan of the sitting president, our man in Washington wonders whether a second Bush term might not be more palatable than we thought

NO MATTER WHETHER you are among the small minority who agree or the vast majority who disagree with America’s foreign policy in the past four years, there are some good reasons why Arabs should reconsider President George W. Bush’s attitude toward the Muslim world and look rationally at next month’s presidential election in the United States.
Radical Islamists, whether active members of Al-Qaeda or sympathizers, thank God for America’s “Holy Idiot.” They endorse a second term for Bush, because he was “foolish enough to place thousands of US soldiers in hopeless battle positions in the heart of the Middle East.”
The most obvious policy conclusion has been summarized in the latest and shortest video ever from Osama bin Laden: “Four more years!”
And in a recent statement, the erstwhile Taliban leader Mullah Omar said from his mountain hideout somewhere between Afghanistan and Pakistan: “Truly we are blessed. Never in our wildest imaginings could we have hoped for a gift more precious than Bush. He is the poster boy of our international movement.”
