9. Duval is definitely NOT a Democratic county
Jacksonville has a large minority population that is still facing massive disenfranchisement. If they could get their votes counted, Duval would not be so GOP heavy. That's exactly what the powers that be are afraid of.

13. Wow!
Here's an article from the LA Times about it. Gadsen County is 60% Democrats. Duvall with Jacksonville in it has been trying to get early voting places for quite a while I guess.

"In nearby Duvall County — where 27,000 votes, most of them from African American neighborhoods, were disqualified in 2000 — activists also have unsuccessfully sought more early voting polling places.

Now Jacksonville, which in land area is the largest city in the contiguous United States, will have a single early voting site — miles from any black neighborhoods."

Damn! I want to see Jesse all over the news!

4. Duvall a large county has 1 early polling place...far away from minorities
google Duvall and voting in Florida..plenty of articles.

Other Florida areas (of this size) have SEVERAL early voting sites.

Duvall (heavy minority) does not.

19. Dems seem to have forsaken the problems
in Jacksonville and I can't figure out why. I live in a barely blue county, less than an hour away from Jacksonville with a large middle class black population transplanted from the northeast. Jacksonville's black population is (I don't know the exact demographics) largely poor southern blacks. I tried to get the educated, middle class blacks (and whites) from the local Democratic party interested in helping out. Like whistling in the wind.

I see that there are DUers going to Jacksonville on election day. Thank you DUers.

Don't we all vote November 2nd. Is florida voting early so they have time to sort out all the disenfranchisement and lawsuits.

20. There IS early voting in Duval County, BUT
there is only one place to do this, in Jacksonville. This is not close to the minority precincts. Duval County is very large. All the other large counties have numerous places to go to vote. Volusia County (Daytona Beach) had only one place go for early voting, but under threat of a lawsuit, changed their mind, and now have three. Duval will not budge, nor do I know of a lawsuit.

21. I'd like to see us win Florida, but I haven't been counting on it.
Between Jeb and Cryptkeeper Harris, it seems like a tall order.

Hopefully-- with some real accountability in Washington--, we can straighten out their 3rd world voting situation before 2008.
