DU ALERT! RW'ers trying to blame Flu Vaccine shortage on John Edwards!

Some of you have probably gotten this, if you have RW friends or relatives...I just got this from my sister-in-law...the crazy one I've posted about on DU before.

Here's the e-mail that they are sending around. I hope Kerry Campaign will go after them on this... They must be getting very afraid to resort to this. I haven't heard from this sister-in-law in over a year after I trashed the stuff she was sending me..so why now does she take a chance in sending this unless she and "they" are desperate.

How the vaccine works:

Influenza vaccine is produced by growing the virus in eggs. The virus is killed and processed to create the vaccine, which is given by injection under the skin. The body then produces antibodies to the virus over the next two to four weeks. If the immunized person then comes into contact with the influenza virus, the antibodies attack and kill the virus before it has a chance to cause infection. The vaccine contains the 3 most likely strains to be active during the "flu season" .

Why the shortage:

Almost half of the nation's flu vaccine will not be delivered this year. Chiron, a major manufacturer of flu vaccine, will not be
distributing any influenza vaccine this flu season. Chiron was to make 46-48 million doses vaccine for the United States. Chiron is a British company. Recently, British health officials stopped Chiron from distributing and making the vaccine when
inspectors found unsanitary conditions in the labs. Some lots of the vaccine were recalled and destroyed.

Why is our vaccine made in the UK and not the US?


The major pharmaceutical companies in the US provided almost 90% of the nations flu vaccine at one time. They did this
despite a very low profit margin for the product. Basically, they were doing us a favor. In the late 80's a man from North
Carolina who had received the vaccine got the flu. The strain he caught was one of the strains in that years vaccine made by
a US company. What did he do? He sued and he won. He was awarded almost $5 million! After that case was appealed and lost, most US pharmaceutical companies stopped making the vaccine. The liability outweighed the profit margin. Since UK and Canadian laws prohibit such frivolous law suits UK and Canadian companies began selling the vaccine in the US.

By the way ... the lawyer that represented the man in the flu shot law suit was a young ambulance chaser by the name of John Edwards - yes, that's right, the democratic party's nominee for vice president ...

Oh puhlease. How stupid do they think we, the people are? Even Bush his almighty self said the vaccine was contaminated and so they refused to allow them to ship it to us.

Also, litigation against pharmaceuticals as well as physicians is less than 1% of their insurance costs. They are playing that 1% to the hilt, aren't they.

That reminds me of that stupid email that was going around about Ollie North (war crime criminal/commentator on Fox) where he talks about the threats he was getting from a particular terrorist, and then he states that terrorist was Osama Bin Laden. More BS! The terrorist at that time was Abu Nadal. I wish these right wing fools would look up history before they forward stupid emails. They do not know how much they really emulate their leader's intelligence by doing this.

Also, Bush is on antidepressants now for how many months? I have had chronic depression for over 20 years. I take some of those drugs too. Trust me, you wouldn't want to elect me to be POTUS. I'm quick tempered, irritated most of the time, severe mood swings, and no sex drive. So Bush's Mr. Winky is probably not in full service now either which causes more frustration. The psychiatrist just said he had depression. Well, you get other things along with the depression. You can get moments of feeling detached from your body (and you are not psychotic), major anxiety, cannot handle stress at all. You can also have symptoms of a psychosis even though you do not lose touch with reality. There is just a hodgepodge of things that can happen when your brain chemicals are out of whack. Oh yeah, another side effect, loss of short-term memory. Bush proved that one during the debates.

See, Canada gets its vaccine without having to do favors. The people must have vaccine so the government healthcare system makes it for them. What a concept.
