Solid-blue and solid-red staters: You're winning the popular vote

Several DUers from solid-blue and solid-red states have posted about feeling that their votes don't count, or are being wasted; some have even considered (and, thankfully, rejected) a protest vote. Those votes are not only important on principle, but they build a popular vote majority. We don't want "President Kerry" followed by an asterisk!

We certainly need all the help we can get in Texas!

I know one of Nader's arguments is that progressives in "safe" states should vote for him instead of Kerry. Of course, if everyone actually did that, the state would no longer be safe.

Voting for Kerry no matter what state you live in will help his popular vote total. In addition to what you say, there's the flip side: if we have a repeat of 2000, *'s credibility will be seriously drained, and we'll get to call him ** to boot. :D

Funny thing is, I've talked to several people about the election, and not one of them is pro-Bush. Every one I've talked to is either voting for Kerry (my immediate family -- count 9 for Kerry), or -- and this is the discouraging part, "I don't like either of them. I'm not voting." And I haven't been successful in imparting my passion for Kerry. I get the response, "I already know everything and I'm not voting. Shut up."

and I live in Utah! The reddest state in the union. I'm sure the Bushies won't even try vote stealing here. My Kerry bumperstickers are safe because what's the point? The 'pubs know they're going to get this state. But damn, it feels so good to punch a straight Democratic ticket (I've yet to vote Republican--can't find one worth a damn), and vote against that barbaric anti-gay amendment. There are some local races that could swind Dem--Peter Corroon, Dean's cousin is running for SL County mayor and he has an excellent chance of winning. And then there's the popular vote. Frankly, if Utah were split up, SLC and Park City would be the Dem oasis in this state.

being in texas we cant win, but i want it clear that there are many many dems in htis area. the more that vote, lowering the margin is a ok by me

and i want calif and ny to make a kick ass clear message

to count those millions of Gore votes from California -- they just kept coming....

but I have started to look at my vote another way.
I saw a show on FSTV the other day where they were talking about the effort vs reward of voting. If your desired reward for voting is to make a difference in an election you are unlikely to feel rewarded, but if your reward is protecting your right to vote you will feel rewarded. I think that makes sense.
When you start to think your vote does not matter (as oppose to wondering if it will be counted) you have lost the point of voting.

Every vote counts. Wouldn't it suck if after all
was said and done,your state was one vote short, and
you didn't vote ?

You can "swap" votes with people in swing states. If you're not too cynical. =p

I voted for kerry here today in Texas. The only meaning is on that popular vote total.

P.S. I had to wait in line for almost an hour to vote today.
