Mother in law makes a last ditch attempt to sway me, LOL!
Email from mother in law, who lives in another state:

"This is the last thing I want to say on this election. First, I cannot believe that you especially could be against Bush! He is from Texas, your home state! I would have thought you'd have some loyalty at least to your home state.

Secondly I really fear for our nation if Bush is not elected. He has shown us the way towards peace and freedom through all the horrible things that have happened and if he is not reelected, everyone will just forget the job he has done.

And don't you worry for ________ (Little Moonbeam)? I do. I certainly hope you aren't turning her against our president. I hate to think of her as being so unpatriotic.

That is all I want to say. I just hope you and ___________ (Mr. Moonbeam) reconsider voting for Kerry and vote for the man who has been with us through so much. We owe him at least that."

So. Yeah. I sat there wondering how they raised such a smart person as my husband and penned this reply:

"First, Bush is not from Texas, he is from Connecticut. Give us Texans some credit, please. A lot of us can smell carpetbaggers from 100 paces. And the notion that I would vote for someone based on where they are (supposedly) from is scary and absurd. I wouldn't care if George W. Bush was born in the same HOSPITAL I was, I still wouldn't vote for him. I tend to take other things into consideration, such as intelligence, decency, competence. You know, crazy stuff like that.

Secondly, I am voting for John Kerry because I think Bush has done a horrible job as far as national security goes. We aren't more safe, we are less safe. And things will only get worse, not better, with him in the White House.

Little Moonbeam is one of the biggest reasons I have for voting for John Kerry. I want a fiscally responsible President, so she doesn't spend the rest of her life paying for his spending spree. I want a safer nation AND a safer WORLD. Not only for her, but for her children, too. As for her being unpatriotic, since when did dissent equal a lack of patriotism? We are teaching her to think for herself and to question the status quo. You taught Mr. Moonbeam to do the same. Do you wish you hadn't now?

Lastly, too late. Mr. Moonbeam and I have both already voted for Kerry, as we have early voting here. We also voted for every Democrat on the ticket. If you'd like to know why we are Democrats, read Garrison Keillor's book "Homegrown Democrat." I have attached a pic of Little Moonbeam in her "Kids for Kerry" shirt. Hope the weather is treating you well there, too much rain here!"

Unbelievable. It's so sad that so many never read anything but what they already believe.

10. LOL I at first read it as "...vote for the man who put us through
so much." :)

Yeah, I expect my girlfriend's mother is going to try to do this, which is hilarious, because we've been working on her, and we give a helluva lot more of a damn about this than she does.

22. My first thought, too.
I hope you haven't burned your bridges with your MIL despite your obvious differences.. I too have a former friend I can't stand communicating with cause she just doesn't get it. I've cancelled our relationship until after the election, but don't think there's much left to salvage.

12. I don't get the idea in this line
"if he is not reelected, everyone will just forget the job he has done."

Er, even if that were the case; which is not bloody likely; why would you want to vote so someone can be remembered?

I'm sorry. I don't get that part.

Anyhoo, I love the response.

Family can be so much fun. My "baby" sister (32 yrs old) didn't/isn't voting because she "doesn't care about that stuff."

Thanks to the Moonbeam family for your hard and wonderful work with Little Moonbeam!

:hi:

But if we do owe him anything, shit is all we owe him.

With all due respect to your mother in law--your poor husband! Gaaaad!

What a joke. We owe it to our country to get his guy out of the White House.

Where was your mother-in-law on 9/11? Does she remember who was minding the store on that day?

talking points, from one coast to another. They just replay what they are told by the big jesus man, GWB. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

23. "the man who has been with us through so much. We owe him at least that"
Good gravy. Like it's his birth right. Like electing him is the same as inviting him to your wedding coz he introduced you. We owe him at least that. I'm all for sentiment, of course, but you're right. You need to cast you vote based on something besides pure giddiness.

24. ROFL!
Your mother in law has the same lack of logical reasoning as most Bush* supporters. "He's from the same state!" "He kept us safe, so we owe him our vote!" "Voting against him is unpatriotic!"

Great reply, by the way.

26. As for the unpatriotism of criticizing the President

a little advice from a famous Republican may be order:

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or
that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
