I know cause I am in a Union shop and the two buggest issues of course are Gun Control an Abortion.

1.) They are going to take my guns away!
2.) Abortion is murder.

I try to inform them about Bush, Inc. trying to take their ovetrtime away, etc.

1. legalized abortion forces no one to abort. War mandates death
dismemberment, and starving of our own and the world's poor because we don't have the resources to feed them....Bush stole it...
Legalizing abortion only means criminal penalties don't apply.
God's judgment still does....as it will for the deaths Bush initiated in Iraq.
Thy kingdom come!

2. and Kerry is NOT going to take their guns away, after all

I would assume that almost all of them are law-abiding citizens, and their guns are not AK-47's or the like. The NRA lies to these people.

3. No it's not
The guys just blabber because it's easier to go along to get along. Generally, a reminder that they didn't have that position a year ago when you talked about it stops the conversation cold. Most people are for sensible gun laws and more than willing to let the woman decide about abortion. They're just afraid of being labeled "girly-men", that's all, so they use these two issues as excuses to be rah rah for the right.

9. You are very wrong on the gun side of this issue. Many union
members are life long gun owners, and avid hunters, and they know what you apparently don't know:

The guns laws that have been passed are just feel good legislation that don't work, can't work, will never work, and have a down side that is never fully understood by their advocates.

Gun laws have resulted in the sale of tens of millions of new guns to now hunters. This has been a disater, many union members see it that way, and care deeply about it.

Dems who dismiss this phenomenon are deluding themselves, IMO.

13. bla bla bla bla bla
I've heard all the NRA shit. When you get past that, and it's not an election year, almost every hunter I've ever talked to supports closing the gun show loophole and other measures to keep the worst weapons off the street. The only ones who don't are the militia types and nobody respects them. Keep repeating the NRA TP's of the last 25 years, I'm not going to argue them anymore. They've been shot down time and again and you people just keep repeating them. It's become a waste of time.

4. union neighbor voting Kerry
I have a neighbor who is the sterotypical good ol'boy. He told me the other day he is voting for Kerry. You could have knocked me over with a feather, I have known him since we were in 9th grade and I would have never thought he would do this. It turns out he is a shop stewerd in the local Teamsters union. I asked what his other union members were going to do. He said most were voting Kerry.

It is this kind of talk that gives me hope for NC

5. Not only do some...the majority of union workers vote repug.
I heard that on tweety's show when he was interviewing some labor boss and he subtantiated the fact. Makes about as much sense as a gay person voting repug...which again is more common than you would think.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is an environmentalist, gay, union worker somewhere out there that votes repugnant.

6. Dem leaders have shot themselves in the foot over gun control.
Ineffective gun control laws have actually resulted in selling more guns to non hunters, and the AWB is so stupid it makes my head hurt.

Union guys who know guns inside and out, and are ardent hunters, vot in huge numbers in swing states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Pennsylvania, especially considering their extended family votes.

These gun control laws have been a disaster for the country and worse for the Dem Party. We would be winning handily right now in the swing states if we had thrown Diane Diane Feinstein out of the Dem party on her ass years ago.

Gun control laws score card:

1. Resulted in the sale of tens of millions of new guns to non hunters.

2. Resulted in more deaths from guns than if the bills had never passed.

3. Lost us 40% of Union household votes in key swing states, all for nothing.

Bleeding heart liberals, anti-hunting liberals, and PETA liberals need to be educated on the cost of their boned headed legislation. It is killing us.

15. Here we have it
"Resulted in the sale of tens of millions of new guns"

Doh, the gun lobby got people all riled up about evil criminals and self-protection and gun rights, so they bought more guns. I'm shocked I tell ya', shocked!!!

20. Wrong
the NRA is what is killing us. They have to put their nose into every gun bill. God forbid we have responsible gun laws. Blaming it on the Dems is tired and old. Put the blame where it belongs, at the feet of the NRA.

8. Bush said he's not going to make abortion illegal and NO Democratic prez
or nominee has ever advocated to take ANY gun from any lawful owner.

Bush is FOR civil unions as of yesterday.

So WHERE is this guy's payoff again?

21. What people don't know is Bush can't
make abortion legal or illegal. It's up to the Supreme Court which made it legal. Bush can appoint new Judges though which can tip the scales the other way.

10. My husband knows some good old boys
who say they're against abortion-until their mistress gets pregnant. Then they shell out the cash for the operation so their wives won't find out.

12. Name me one candidate who said he'd repeal the Second Amendment.
Unless it's some obscure candidate running on some extremist platform, I've never heard of any Democrat talking about taking guns away. Some have talked about restricting assault weapons, but that's it. But, what are you gonna use an assault weapon for? Hunt rabbits?

16. abortions went down under Clinton
And they are going up again under Bush, because of the economic impact of his policies and the loss of insurance coverage for birth control, and of health care in general.

They've increased over 11% in my state (Michigan).

All the pro-lifers are voting for the wrong guy.

18. Murder is murder !!!

Killing kids in Iraq over non-existent WMD is murder.

Letting children starve to death is murder.

Failure to guard 380 tons of high-yield explosives is DEFINITELY MURDER!!!!

Bush is a murderer. Does it matter if he's for or against it????

19. Bush opposes condomns and family planning ...
... thus we have more unplanned pregnancies. Ergo, we have more abortions.

If you're against abortion AND condomns, you've got some serious cognitive dissonance going on!!!!
