Bush's downfall...
Gay Marriage/Civil Unions

He will crash and burn with his own wedge issue. Ironic, don't you think?

1. Too delicious!
Bush kisses his base's ass with the marriage amendment.... and they kick his ass over a last-minute bogus "olive branch." Love it!

2. This hasn't settled in yet
The media is just starting to play with this story and it hasn't registered with Dubya's "base" yet...........

Added bonus:

Remember all the inroads Dubya was making with evangelical black voters over the gay rights issue? Kiss that one bye-bye....

3. His comment to Charles Gibson doesn't make any sense
For months the Bush campaign has been all about motivating and pandering to the base, and then a week before the election he decides to piss off a good part of that base? It's just so comical!

8. Actually, the implication of this seems to be...
That Bush's base is not nearly as large as we or he projected. In another thread, people are talking about how he reached out to Dems. My guess, he's willing to lose a percentage of his base on a gamble to get moderate dems and conservatives.

15. You're right. They miscalculated.
Do they really think this olive branch or outright lie is supposed to bring back the LCRs to their fold? It might bring back some of the most self-hating of the self-hating LCRs, but there's a good percentage that is still pissed.

And if you want to get pissy about it, what about his "base?" How are they supposed to stand for this? I dunno. Maybe the RNC has new demographic numbers.

When I take a few steps back, I have to wonder about the flip-flop issue. I guess it takes one to superimpose one. And * is still just a flop.

I see a big media event with transexual hula dancers and maybe they can find ms Cheneys old friend Mr. Leather 1999.

That ought to play well on the 700 Club!

12. How to HELP Bush* fall down. . .

Go to Yahoo and rate the story. Less than 300 people have rated it so far.

14. Did Rove arrange this or did Bush have one of those rare...thoughts?
While I don't tend to subscribe to the fairly popular opinion here that Rove is an evil genius (I think he's evil and smart - but he's no genius), I can't believe that Rove would be stupid enough to encourage Bush to say this. So did Bush come up with this one all on his own? And if he did, boy I wish I could have heard the conversations with Rove that followed.

16. It's just bizarre.
They are way off message with this one. I really think this will hurt chunksof his base. Some are too evangelized to care.
