Poll question: Democratic Primary Candidate Poll
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 07:46 PM by bluestateguy
We have not done a candidate poll for quite awhile, and I think it's time we do another one. Many more people are starting to make up their minds. Some people have changed their candidate preferences. I hope you wll all decide to vote and not turn this into a debate about polls. I also hope some of you will help to keep this thread kicked.

Who is your choice to win the Democratic nomination?

19. It means the same thing it always means
The Clark blogs have a direct link to voting for him on every DU poll. And yes it's true. I've seen the links. It's "Freeping" the poll - not that I'm implying the Clark supporters are Freepers, mind you. Just a similar strategy, and NOT one indicative of the actual DU membership.

24. Respectfully
Could you provide that link to the Clark blog? I spend quite a bit of time there, and I've never seen it.

I personally do not believe there is much concern among the Clark campaign regarding a blogger's poll on DU, but if I'm wrong, I'll certainly stand corrected, and issue a plea to other Clark bloggers not to participate in such actions.

45. FYI
I did a search of the Clark blog, and the last mention of polling on DU was back in December and November (two occasions). No mention of 'freeping' this poll.

Next?

34. What difference does it make?
If Dean has the supporters in the primaries, why does it matter to you how a DU poll turns out? This poll isn't legally binding by any stretch of the imagination.

42. At least the Clark blog actually ACKNOWLEDGES DU
The only references anywhere on Dean's site or blog is a few posts in the forums. Mostly by DU members.

The Clark blog actually has a prominent link on the left hand side of the front page.

Maybe the Dean camp should accept that DU actually exists.

87. If only members of DU can vote in the polls here,
which is the case, and we can each only vote once, then how is it "freeping" for DU members to vote in a DU poll? Since only members of DU can vote in these polls, then how are the results not "indicative of the actual DU membership"?

This accusation gets thrown around a lot (every time there is a poll), but I can't quite understand it.

112. It is an interesting turn of events
I remember back early on in the primary this board solidly backed Dean as a whole (he usually got well over 50% in polls like these). Even after Clark was drafted and announced there was not much excitement here about him until one day when it seemed like it just shifted.

129. It's possible that Dean supporters spend more time in GD, less in GD2004
I'm a Kucinich/Dean supporter interested in many issues and on late-breaking news. I haven't visited the GD2004 section in at least a month, but I'm in GD & LBN every day.

Perhaps the split between GD and GD2004 has skewed the polls depending on which people are mostly interested in the primaries and which people are more interested in other issues.

I don't know; it's just a hypothesis.

Clark got 14 votes in 30 seconds. Either the Clark supporters are trolling votes from another board, or the Dean supporters are pulling a prank by voting for Clark.

I can tell you that it hasn't been referenced on the Clark blog because I've been there on every thread this PM and there is no mention of this poll. Now the official DU straw polls do often generate a post or 2 on the Clark blog.

A large majority of Dean supporters have left DU in recent weeks and months, so he won't get many votes here anymore.

114. They've moved on because this board has largely become poison
Kudos to the Mods for trying to remedy that now, but I fear it might be too little too late.

Incidentally, many Dean supporters ARE still active posters in DU, they just never visit the GD: 2004 Primary Board because they don't like the tone and rhetoric. Thus when you put a poll like this up on this board it does not accurately reflect Dean's support. Try a poll like this in Politics & Campaigns and I bet you would get a significantly different response.

based on an unofficial straw poll basically hidden and floating around in only one forum. You'd have to have a more prominent and pinned Skinner poll and allow several days to elapse before making any kinds of judgments.

Where do you draw the line? Buy ad time on Clark's site.

I don't thing you should be aggressively flooding DU with your supporters. Furthermore, the polls almost always seem to be created by Clark supporters. I wonder why?

52. As a Clark supporter, I find this poll quite distressing
If Clark stands at ~40% of this site's poll then I'm not sure I'm in the right forum. Maybe Clark folks are just of a tougher brand, or maybe it's just posted at the hour in which more of his people are on the net. But if the population at DU is really this much slanted in favor of Clark, I almost feel like I ought to move on and spend more time at websites where non-Clark folks do dwell. Not that I'm trying to assume a missionary position on the internet or anything. I'd simply like to "spread the word" is all.

54. still Clark
probably even more so lately. Its not so much about the other candidates as it is about Clark and his ability to restore us to sanity after so much bush propaganda and a somewhat ill informed public. I think he can restore us back to the proper priorities domestically and in the world. Transparency, trust and a return back to American principles of self determination and honor. A return to our better nature.

57. Gephardt dammit!
Take the blindfold off your eyes, people! Gephardt is the only one of the big 5 who has criticized NAFTA since the early 90s!! Gephardt is a social and economic progressive. Sure, he was pro-war; but Dean's record as governor of Vermont is centrist in pretty much every regard.

Where are the other two Gep voters? If you voted for Gep please tell me and get a Geppie icon so we can recognize each others and build a pro-Gep movement on DU to counter this Clark and Dean stuff.

150. Hmm...what US polls reflect this poll?
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 05:06 PM by Terwilliger
The other question is, why does a website that consistently used to Vote Dean #1 and Kucinich #2 now consistently have votes where the vote total is very high for Clark. Did all the Kucinich supporters jump on the Clark bandwagon? Or is there some sort of bias?

It's a legitimate question.

151. Yikes. No offense but...
... there is a very good chance that it is a legitimate poll of the position of DUers. As to the reasons, I would speculate that there is a heart-oriented bias toward Kucinich but a much greater head-oriented bias toward Clark.

Once you watch and read a lot of what Clark has to say though, he often wins both heart and head. At least that's the way it is with me. We are incredibly lucky to have him on our side, whether he wins the nomination or not.

169. I've stuck with Clark for the same reasons that attracted me in the first
place. He's inspiring, he's brilliant (more like uber-brilliant or hyper-intelligent) he's had the experience to back up the comments he's made about Bush and the war in Iraq, he has very comperable and impressive domestic experience with domestic programs he championed in the service, he's led his whole life on the principles of duty, honor and country. Clark is a non-politician with the ability to excite and bring in new voters as well as providing a safe harbor for dissaffected independents and others.

Plus, he hugged me. OK, I would have voted for him anyway, but it didn't hurt anything.
